Salary: $83,917 - $92,421 annually

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (40 hours/week)

The McLean County Highway Department is seeking a CivilEngineer II to lead critical infrastructure projects, ensuring the safety andefficiency of our roads, bridges, and drainage systems. What You'll Do:

• Serve as Resident or Design Engineer for highway, bridge,and drainage construction and maintenance projects.
• Oversee site surveys, right-of-way assessments, designplans, cost estimates, bid documents, contractor coordination, and inspections.
• Ensure projects comply with Illinois Department ofTransportation (IDOT) standards, county policies, and professional engineeringpractices.
• Conduct inspections of roads, bridges, and drainagefacilities, identifying repair needs and ensuring material quality.
• Prepare and analyze technical reports, cost estimates, andproject documentation.
• Manage timelines, budgets, and deliverables whilecoordinating with surveyors, environmental engineers, and contractors.
• Provide technical guidance to construction teams and otherprofessionals involved in infrastructure projects.

What We're Looking For:

Education & Experience: Bachelor's Degree in CivilEngineering from an ABET accredited university, and at least four (4) years of experience in highway constructionand design (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

Skills & Abilities:

• Strong understanding of civil engineering principles relatedto transportation infrastructure.
• Experience with federal and state-funded projectdocumentation (CMMS).
• Knowledge of drainage analysis methods for culvert design.
• Familiarity with ADA regulations and sidewalk facilitydesign.
• Proficiency in surveying, computerized drafting, andengineering software.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans,specifications, and blueprints.
• Strong project management, problem-solving, andcommunication skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions andrough terrain.

Preferred Certifications & Licenses:

Valid State of Illinois Driver's License (or ability toobtain within 15 days of employment).

E.I.T. Certification or Active Illinois ProfessionalEngineer (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 6-12 months).

IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities certificate.

Besides these roads, McLean County has 89 bridges and theTownships have 247 bridges over 20 feet in length that the department inspectsbiannually. The department supervises the design and replacement of 1-2 bridgeseach year. We also design and construct joint township and village culvertprojects.

The department also provides engineering services andadministers the 30 Townships' Motor Fuel Tax and Township Bridge Program funds.
