IMMEDIATELY HIRING EXPERIENCED PIPEFITTERS IN CHAPEL HILL, NC (THE JOB IS ON CAMPUS AT UNC)

PAY $26 - 30+ PER HOUR (DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE)

WORKING HOURS START AT 7AM MONDAY - FRIDAY

PROJECT SHOULD RUN 4-6 MONTHS

This is a University construction project, focusing on fitting carbon steel pipe 6-8 inches and coordinating mechanical room installations for chiller, boiler, and steam systems. You will ensure work follows blueprints, meets quality and safety standards, and supports the successful upfit of an existing school facility.

Responsibilities

• Complete carbon steel pipe installations up to 6-8 inches.

• Plan and coordinate daily tasks to ensure timely and accurate completion of mechanical room piping work.

• Interpret and work from blueprints and drawings to lay out, fit, and install piping systems correctly.

• Participate in the fitting and installation of carbon steel pipe for chillers, boilers, and steam systems.

• Ensure proper alignment, support, and connection of piping within mechanical rooms and other designated areas.

• Inspect work in progress and completed work to verify it meets specifications, quality expectations, and safety standards.

• Collaborate with other trades and site personnel to coordinate work and avoid conflicts or delays.

• Maintain a safe work area by following site safety rules, using required PPE, and promoting safe work practices.

Essential Skills

• 3–5 years of experience in commercial pipe fitting work.

• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings.

• Hands-on experience fitting carbon steel pipe up to 8 inches.

• Proficiency working with chiller and boiler hookups in mechanical rooms.

• Experience with steam pipe installation and related systems.

• Solid understanding of mechanical room layouts and piping configurations.

• Ability to ensure proper upfit and alignment of piping systems.

• Knowledge of safe work practices on commercial construction sites.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous job site work in commercial or institutional construction environments, particularly school or university projects.

• Experience working in both interior mechanical rooms and exterior construction areas.

• Familiarity with welding and pipe fitting techniques as related to carbon steel piping.

• Ability to communicate effectively with crew members and other trades on site.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chapel Hill, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $30.00/hr.
