Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Cardiac Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Cardiac/vascular experience Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Cardiac Stepdown unit. The unit consists of 32 beds, all private. There are 22 stepdown beds and 12 floor beds. The stepdown ratio is 1 RN to 3 patients. The floor ratio is 1 RN to 6 patients. Common diagnoses include cardiac surgery post-op patients such as CABG, valve replacements, and heart transplants. Vascular surgical procedures include AAA repair and angiograms. Additionally, patients may experience conditions such as STEMI, NSTEMI, and heart failure. RNs on this unit are required to titrate various drips. Common titratable drips include Heparin, Amiodarone, and Dobutamine. Charge Nurse and House Supervisors are present 24/7 on the unit. There are Clinical Associates available, with a goal ratio of 4-5 CAs for 24/7 coverage. Respiratory equipment available includes CPAP and BiPAP. Monitor Techs are responsible for interpreting cardiac strips. This position requires every other weekend and holiday availability. Shifts involve floating to sister units as needed within the organization. The dress code consists of solid royal blue and white scrubs. The unit is noted for delivering excellent patient care in a thriving teamwork atmosphere. The charting system used is EPIC.
