Laboratory Technician/Technologist

Position Overview South Shore Health is looking to grow its Lab Technologist Team. The laboratory technician/technologist will be responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to Laboratory protocol and procedures. Job Details Requisition Number: R-21291 Facility: LOC0011 – 85 Columbian Street, Weymouth, MA 02190 Department: SSH Lab Off‑Shift Status: Part time Budgeted Hours: 36 Shift: Evening (3:00 pm – 11:30 pm rotating every other weekend) Compensation Pay Range: $34.34 – $46.22 Benefits Competitive Benefit Programs Generous PTO Community Discounts Career Advancement Opportunities Strong Employee Culture Primary Responsibilities Perform accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established protocol and procedures. Evaluate specimens for acceptability for proper testing and investigate problems with unacceptable specimens. Organize workload for maximum efficiency to complete tests. Verify accuracy of results before reporting and document critical values. Report test results in a timely manner and according to established protocol, adhering to time limits. Notify supervisors or designated personnel of pre‑analytical, analytical, or post‑analytical variances and microbiology alerts. Handle specimens in accordance with appropriate storage temperature requirements and laboratory procedures. Perform and document quality control procedures, analyze QC results, and report discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor. Maintain instrumentation and equipment through daily, weekly, monthly or as‑needed maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting. Follow laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions, chemical hygiene, and safety procedures, including proper use of PPE. Disinfect and clean work benches and areas during and at the end of the shift; dispose of contaminated and hazardous waste properly; maintain a current inventory of MSDS and spill containment procedures. Maintain lab cleanliness, restock supplies, perform inventory, and notify supervisors of low stock or shortages. Assist coworkers and the microbiology supervisor with specimen processing, special projects, and training of new employees or students. Engage in technology adoption to improve work processes and turnaround time. Practice safety awareness and foster a culture of safety, adhering to laboratory safety policies. Verify specimen labeling accuracy and patient information prior to testing; prepare revised reports for erroneous results following established corrective-action procedures. Qualifications Associate's Degree in a relevant science preferred. Four (4) months’ clinical laboratory internship preferred. Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or eligibility for MLT certification. Eligibility for Medical Laboratory Technician Certification (MLTE‑AMT – American Medical Technologist, MLT – American Society for Clinical Pathology). #J-18808-Ljbffr South Shore Health
