Laboratory Assistant, Medical Laboratory Technology

MLT Laboratory Assistant

The MLT Laboratory Assistant is a support staff member who plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of labs within the MLT Program. This position is responsible for preparing, setting up, and breaking down laboratory sessions, ensuring that all equipment, materials, and instructional resources are ready for use and properly stored afterward. The role includes maintaining an accurate inventory of supplies, monitoring stock levels, and coordinating the ordering and restocking of materials to support ongoing instructional needs. Responsible for demonstrating LSSC's core values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating, and Celebrating when interacting with students, employees, visitors, and community members.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain inventory records by keeping track of stock levels, locations, use, warranty, and maintenance of equipment and supply items.
  • Manage, track, process, report, and reconcile supply orders and receiving reports for MLT labs.
  • Manage student laboratory supplies.
  • Assist with budget preparations of laboratory supplies.
  • Assist clinical faculty in the set-up and tear-down of laboratory supplies.
  • Maintain a list of hazardous materials, monitor material levels, and process requests for removal.
  • Notify vendors of any repair, maintenance, and replacement of equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including assistance with other Health Professions labs as appropriate.
  • Ensure lab environment is clean, safe, and orderly on a daily basis.
  • Calendar management: Schedules appointments and maintains the calendar.
  • Preparation of correspondence.
  • Inventory document preparation and organization of files.
  • Organizes office operations and procedures, acquisitions, distribution, and store supplies.
  • Schedules/coordinates meetings and room set up as necessary.
  • Assist in establishing work procedures and standards to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations while improving customer service.
  • Exemplify core values and provide excellent customer service to members of the general public and other LSSC employees.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and database development/entry.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Initiative to follow and enforce standard lab safety guidelines.
  • Required to wear protective clothing such as goggles, gloves, closed-toed shoes, etc.
  • Advanced ability to communicate effectively both verbally and electronically.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Demonstrate respect and confidentiality.
  • Works effectively with minimal supervision, applying strong interpersonal skills and maintaining flexibility to work irregular hours when required.
  • Promote a common purpose consistent with the College's stated goals and demonstrate a commitment to students and the learning environment.
  • Possess knowledge of general written standards and procedures utilized, and have the ability to read, interpret, and follow procedural and policy manuals related to the job tasks.

  • Ability to work various hours, including nights, early mornings, and weekends
  • Ability to travel amongst various campuses and attend College events, on or off campus, as required.

Minimum Qualifications & Education

  • Required:
    1. Associate's degree from an accredited institution.
    2. 1 year of similar laboratory or supply management experience.
  • Preferred:
    1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
