Intern JusticeWorks was founded in 1999 with a mission to provide value added services which fill in the gaps in service delivery systems to troubled youth and families. Our goal is to build better futures for youth, families, and communities and our operating strategy is to do whatever it takes to achieve our goals. JusticeWorks' founder and President, Daniel S. Heit, has been acknowledged as a national leader in developing and managing innovative programs for youth and families with profound challenges. He served two terms as President of Therapeutic Communities of America, was appointed by President George H.W. Bush to a Presidential Commission for Model State Drug Laws and served on President Bill Clinton's behavioral health subcommittee for health care reform. He has developed and managed a broad continuum of residential and outpatient services throughout Pennsylvania and in six other states. Since inception, JusticeWorks has been committed to delivering on its promises to its county partners by conducting outcome evaluations of its work. Our programs have conclusively demonstrated their ability to provide intensive community based services that positively resolve critical situations with youth and their families while reducing overall costs to public sector agencies. The JW internship program is designed to give students an introduction to community base care with emphasis on Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice. This internship will expose students to key areas of practice in Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice career field. This opportunity will refine, reinforce, and apply concepts and skills learned during their education. Interns will benefit from experiences that teach him/her about social work, work force culture, evidenced based practices, court, child welfare, juvenile justice, as well as preparation to obtain future employment in community based programming. This experience gives interns: An opportunity to observe in a controlled environment in multiple practice areas Structured and monitored supervision Exposure to evidenced based practices Comprehension of Data Management Programs Outcome and Output reporting Specific training needed for community based care An educational platform for learning ethical decision making Exposure to the management and administrative skills required to manage on a variety of platforms. An opportunity to develop an initial career plan and practice in a multidisciplinary setting Shadow staff and gain first hand experiential knowledge. Internship Skills & Style: Must have good verbal/ written communication skills and works well with people; highly organized; good, creative problem solving skills; ability to work independently, and be flexible/ adaptive in handling changing priorities in a fast paced environment; computer/ internet skills a must. Must be comfortable working with clients who have a range of ethnicities, cultures and socio-economical living environments Concern for Others - Internship requires being sensitive to others' needs and feelings and being understanding and helpful. Self-Control - Internship requires maintaining composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in very difficult situations. Adaptability/Flexibility – Internship requires being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace. Cooperation - Internship requires being pleasant with others on and displaying a good-natured, cooperative attitude. Dependability — Internship requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfilling obligations. Stress Tolerance — Internship requires accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations. Integrity — Internship requires being honest and ethical. Attention to Detail — Internship requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing tasks. Other Internship Requirements: Valid driver's license, auto insurance and access to a vehicle; able to share office space, work independently and as part of a team; able to work evenings and weekends. Duration of Internship: This internship is 10 weeks long and is capable of being flexible to the needs of the University and the student. JusticeWorks YouthCare
