Immigration Paralegal

Job Announcement – Full Time Immigration Law Paralegal

Reporting to the Directing Attorney, the Paralegal is primarily responsible for providing legal support to Entre Hermanos’ immigration attorneys and together, providing crucial immigration services to the community.

Our immigration services include representing individuals before U.S. immigration agencies with a focus on individuals in immigration court proceedings. Applications include Asylum, naturalization, residency, U-visas, and other forms of relief.

We are seeking a staff member that has a dedication and interest in advancing their career in immigration law. The primary responsibility will be to provide support to the department attorneys' current workload with the opportunity for increasing responsibility and mentorship.

Essential Functions

1. Provide reception during office hours
2. Translate documents and provide interpretation between English and Spanish
3. Prepare records requests such as birth certificates, medical and criminal records
4. Conduct case management including keeping the electronic database up to date, filing, copying, scanning and emailing documents, mailing correspondence for hearings, interviews, and other required appointments or notices.
5. Manage court dockets and calendars for attorneys.
6. Prepare immigration forms and supporting documents, draft declarations and communications, and interview clients.
7. Manage U-visa docket, including filling out all forms, coordination of certification with law enforcement, preparing client declarations and supporting documents. Submission and follow up on U-visa cases is also part of this job description.
8. Submit electronic and in-court filings.
9. Conduct client screening and intakes.
10. Other administrative or legal tasks as needed for the Legal department.
11. Participation in Organization-wide community outreach events.

Required Education and Experience

• • Must have a BA or paralegal certificate, and/or at least one to three years of experience as a support staff working under the supervision of an immigration (preferred) attorney
  • Experience working in a non-profit, at a public interest, or community-based organization is helpful
  • Enthusiasm for working at a progressive, sex-positive organization
  • Passion for social justice for immigrants required

Preferred Education and Experience

• • Experience with deportation defense and immigration courts is a plus
  • Experience working with immigrants or persons experiencing trauma and other mental health issues is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a high-volume law office

Classification and Work Schedule

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with flexibility required based on the needs of the organization. This position requires full time presence in our Seattle, Washington office. Remote work will not be available.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment. The position requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, using hands and arms in working with documents, communicating in person, over the phone, and electronically. Regular discussions regarding physical and mental violence and harm, sexual and domestic abuse, discrimination and other related topics are part of the job duties. Some travel may be required within the Seattle-Tacoma area.

• Salary: Range

$62,000 to $73,000 and generous employee benefits
