Teacher - Special Education Resource Chandler USD 80, CHANDLER HIGH SCHOOL, Chandler, Arizona Job Details Employment Type: Full-time Starting Date: Immediately Salary: $58,000 + $5,000 special education stipend per year Calendar: Certified teachers new to district 203 workdays, returning teachers 201 workdays Benefits: PTO, holidays, matched retirement through the Arizona State Retirement System, health and life insurance, wellness, professional growth credit Performance Pay: Available annually New Hire Experience: $400 for each full-time year of certified teaching or verified like experience in the last 10 years, max $2800, National Board Certification $3,000 annually New Hire Education: $1250 for advanced degrees + $80/hour of graduate level credits: BA +96 hours max, MA +96 hours max, $500 for additional advanced degrees beyond Master's Job Description Job Goal: To provide an equitable, safe, and supportive learning environment that challenges and empowers all students to achieve their fullest potential, in alignment with the District’s mission and vision. Position Overview: The Resource Teacher bridges academic and behavioral support. This role involves teaching a specialized Behavior Strategies class, co‑teaching General Education Math and ELA, and implementing targeted behavioral interventions to ensure student success. Minimum Qualifications Arizona Teaching Certificate (Special Education and/or relevant endorsements preferred) Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field (preferred) 2+ years of classroom experience with a strong, proven background in behavior management (PBIS) and co‑teaching models (preferred) Certified in crisis de‑escalation preferred (e.g., CPI) or willing to obtain certification; exceptional patience and adaptability (preferred) AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card SEI endorsement coursework completed Appropriate approved areas/endorsements may be required, depending on the area of instruction Knowledge of computer applications Core Job Functions Plan and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs of students based on their skills, abilities, and unique circumstances Provide research‑based, specialized instruction to address instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students Develop and implement reasonable classroom rules that address behavior and procedure in a fair and consistent manner Create a weekly lesson plan describing daily learning experiences correlated with the aims and/or objectives in the curriculum guide and/or course outline Work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce concepts and skills Monitor and assess student progress to provide ongoing feedback, report quarterly progress, and report annual progress on IEP goals Maintain both paper and electronic student records Complete duties as Service Coordinator for students assigned to individual workload (including IEP paperwork, special education assessment, quarterly progress reports, data collection, parent communication, collaboration with team members, attendance) Identify and address specific student needs, and seek assistance from the site department chair Communicate using organized, clear, and precise language Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing the development of proper student behavior Use effective behavior management strategies when working with children identified with disabilities to provide interventions and develop behavior intervention plans Develop and adhere to a class schedule addressing instructional periods, breaks, and inclusive practices Create educational experiences that provide each student the opportunity to develop his/her potential Promote and follow approved school district philosophy, policies, regulations, and procedures Communicate concerns and ideas with colleagues, students, parents, and the community in a positive, professional, and ethical manner Collaborate with classroom teachers regarding curriculum or environmental adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification, and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students identified with disabilities Assume legal responsibility for the supervision of students on school property or in attendance at school-sponsored activities Strive to maintain and improve professional competence Assume individual responsibilities which may be assigned by the principal/supervisor and may relate to committee work, student activities, student supervision, or other planning and professional assignments Maintain accurate, complete, legible, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities Attend parent conferences Basic Knowledge of computers, software, and applications Participate in department and school meetings Participate in District and school initiatives Meet additional job requirements as indicated by the District or site administration Key Responsibilities Behavioral Instruction: Teach a specialized curriculum focused on social‑emotional learning (SEL), self‑regulation, and coping strategies. Co‑Teaching: Partner with general education teachers to co‑plan and deliver differentiated, accessible instruction in Math and ELA. Intervention & Tracking: Develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), and collect data to monitor progress. Crisis Management: Utilize trauma‑informed practices and de‑escalation techniques to handle behavioral crises safely. Collaboration: Consult with teachers, administration, and parents to support students' academic and behavioral needs. Professional Qualities Promote positive interactions with colleagues Promote positive interactions with students, parents, and community members Be responsible, reliable, and punctual Be flexible and adaptable to change Positively accept direction Direct constructive criticism toward improving the district Exercise positive problem‑solving behavior and conflict resolution skills Adhere to the dress code appropriate to the site and job Share sensitive student and staff information on a need‑to‑know basis Be a positive role model for students Adhere to district and school rules and procedures Work with a large cross‑section of people in a professional and non‑judgmental manner Physical Requirements Positions often require stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, and sitting. Involves finger or manual dexterity, repetitive finger motion, speaking, hearing, seeing (with correction), and focusing ability. May involve exposure to travel, odors, dust, poor ventilation, workspace restrictions, and loud noises. May require lifting or exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
