Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Neuro Medical/Surgical Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of relevant nursing experience License: State RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: - Nursing - Patient Care - Nursing Process - Patient Assessment - Care Plan Development Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver responsible for a group of patients during a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients via the nursing process, nursing trends, and technology. Responsibilities include maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided. The RN completes the initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The plan of care is modified based on continuous evaluation. Patient and employee safety is prioritized by reporting and correcting safety hazards and incidents. The RN communicates issues directly, and offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. Self-identified learning needs are addressed by taking initiative for appropriate solutions. All departmental competencies are fulfilled. Department Specific Job Functions: The RN receives bedside shift report from another RN at the beginning of each shift. Patient input and visual validation of a safe patient room environment are included at the time of shift change. The RN ensures the patient communication board is updated in each patient room. Delegation of patient care tasks to assigned healthcare team members occurs with validation of task completion. Basic RN patient care activities such as assessments and interpretation of vital signs are documented. The RN ensures physician orders are completed and manages the admission and discharge of patients. Hourly rounding and care plan documentation are completed for each assigned patient. Patient education is also addressed. Medications are provided utilizing the five rights of medication administration. Safety measures compliance such as fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, and isolation precautions are maintained. A positive attitude is maintained to promote a healthy work environment. Prompt answering of patient call lights ensures effective triage and completion of medical needs. Critical thinking is employed to evaluate the overall patient condition. Nursing judgment is utilized to identify and act on changes in patient status. Effective communication within the healthcare team promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and patient care coordination. Competent care is provided for patients with mild to severe brain injuries due to various causes. The RN can specifically identify and respond immediately to neurological changes and seizure activity.
