Cost Accountant

Fit Recruiting is assisting a well-established healthcare organization in Mobile with its search for a Cost Accountant. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting or finance professional who enjoys analyzing data, identifying trends, and helping leadership make informed financial decisions. In this role, you'll support hospital operations through cost analysis, financial reporting, budgeting, and strategic decision‑making while working closely with leadership across the organization. Responsibilities Maintain and manage the organization's cost accounting system, including cost center structures and allocation methodologies Prepare and analyze department and cost center cost reports, including labor, supplies, overhead, and ancillary costs Perform service line, procedure, and reimbursement cost analyses Produce ad hoc financial reports and analyses for executive leadership and department managers. Support annual budgeting and forecasting through cost data and historical trend analysis Validate financial data across the general ledger, payroll, materials management, and cost accounting systems Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes and reduce costs Assist with audit, reimbursement, and regulatory reporting Develop recurring reports and dashboards for leadership Qualifications Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred 2–4 years of cost accounting or financial analysis experience, preferably in a healthcare or hospital setting Experience with healthcare cost accounting software, such as CostFlex, is a plus Advanced Microsoft Excel skills Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills Ability to explain financial information clearly to both financial and operational leaders If you're looking for an opportunity to join a respected healthcare organization where your financial analysis will directly support strategic decision-making, we'd love to hear from you.
