Technical Lead

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Technical Lead based in United States.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role with ownership of a core product engineering pod in a fast-moving technology environment.
You will guide a distributed team of senior engineers while setting technical direction, managing delivery, and supporting team growth.
The role combines people leadership with deep technical involvement across architecture, software development, infrastructure, data, and AI.
You will modernize critical systems while establishing scalable engineering practices and an AI-assisted software development lifecycle.
Your work will influence business-critical financial workflows where reliability, accuracy, and delivery speed directly affect customers.
You will collaborate closely with Product, business stakeholders, and senior leadership to make pragmatic technical decisions and manage trade-offs.

Accountabilities:

• Directly lead and develop a distributed engineering pod spanning the United States and Latin America, providing technical direction, work prioritization, mentorship, feedback, and career development.
• Build trust with experienced senior engineers by combining strong technical judgment with active listening, collaboration, and effective leadership.
• Evolve the team's software development lifecycle, including Agile practices and an AI-assisted development process with appropriate standards, review practices, testing, security controls, and guardrails.
• Own the architecture of Next.js applications supporting core case and workflow management, as well as integrations with external partner platforms.
• Drive the modernization of legacy Flask and jQuery systems toward a modern technology stack based on Next.js, Node.js, and TypeScript.
• Design and implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures and AI agent workflows supporting case intake, submission review, and reconciliation in a governed and auditable environment.
• Own the data layer and pipelines connecting applications with client financial systems, while optimizing complex PostgreSQL and MySQL queries and ensuring infrastructure can scale with growing clinical, legal, and financial data.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership through coding, architectural decision-making, technical reviews, and implementation guidance.
• Partner closely with Product and business stakeholders to define technical scope, sequence work, evaluate trade-offs, and establish realistic delivery plans.
• Identify and address architectural, scalability, reliability, and performance risks while maintaining a strong pace of delivery.
• Lead initiatives that improve engineering effectiveness, system architecture, code quality, and long-term platform scalability.
• Represent the engineering team credibly in high-impact discussions with senior leadership and other stakeholders.

Requirements:

• Proven experience formally leading or managing an engineering team with direct reports; demonstrated people leadership is essential.
• Experience leading distributed and blended engineering teams across multiple countries and time zones, including employees, contractors, or agency resources.
• At least 7 years of experience building and scaling production-grade web applications, with recent hands-on engineering experience.
• Strong full-stack engineering background with an emphasis on backend and infrastructure, including API design, microservices, database optimization, and modern frontend development.
• Experience with Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS, TypeScript, Node.js, Python, and/or Go.
• Strong knowledge of AWS services and cloud infrastructure, including technologies such as Lambda, S3, ECS, and RDS.
• Experience working with PostgreSQL and MySQL, including complex query optimization and scalable data architectures.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and a clear perspective on code review, testing, security, and cost management when AI generates significant portions of code.
• Experience with AI and data technologies such as RAG architectures, LangChain, PgVector, LLM integrations, or AI agent workflows is highly valuable.
• Strong architectural judgment and the ability to explain and defend technical trade-offs to senior leadership.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, approximately 100-person company where ownership, adaptability, and initiative are highly valued.
• Experience in healthcare, fintech, healthcare payments, insurance, legal, or another regulated environment is a plus.
• Must be based in the United States and able to maintain meaningful working-hour overlap with teams in Latin America.
• Must be willing and able to pass a standard background check.
