Senior Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor

Overview The Oklahoma City VA Health Care System - Mental Health Service - is currently recruiting for One Senior Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor to help care for our Veterans. Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements English Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with 38 U.S.C. 74 Education: A master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, or a related field from a CACREP-accredited program Licensure: Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor Consideration of licensure requirements: Individuals must actively pursue meeting state prerequisites for licensure starting from the date of appointment LPMHC licensure status: Loss of licensure may result in removal from the GS-0183 LPMHC occupation and possible termination of employment Grandfathering: May qualify under the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (applicable to current VHA employees in this occupation) Grade Determinations (GS-12): Senior Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor with 5 years of post-licensed experience and the ability to supervise trainees or unlicensed staff In addition to the GS-12 KSAs, candidates must demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in the following areas to serve as a Senior LPMHC: Ability to make professional evaluations, decisions, and treatment planning Mastery of counseling process fundamentals and the ability to establish effective counseling relationships Subject matter consultation with colleagues and trainees across specialty areas Advanced crisis intervention and stabilization for patients in psychological distress Independent judgment and skill in treatment planning with evidence-based practices Use of a wide range of individual, group, or family counseling interventions Ability to diagnose and formulate treatment goals using the current DSM Development and facilitation of psychotherapy and psychoeducation groups Advanced knowledge of complex mental illness treatment modalities and differential diagnosis Ability to coordinate delivery of specialized psychosocial services and design system changes based on data Subject matter consultation and mentorship for staff and trainees; supervision for licensure or specialty certifications Effective written and oral communication with leadership, staff, and community stakeholders regarding policies, procedures, and guidelines Reference: For more information on this qualification standard, please visit This vacancy is a GS-12 position - which is above the Full Performance Level Duties Major Duties and Responsibilities: Diagnose mental disorders Treat Veterans with complex needs using independent judgment and a variety of modalities (individual, family, group), triage/crisis management, and other interventions including community-based interventions Provide advanced psychotherapy as needed Conduct initial intakes/biopsychosocial assessments and treatment planning per Joint Commission/VA requirements and SOPs Practice measurement-based care using the Collect - Share - Act model in accordance with Joint Commission/VA requirements and SOPs Consult with OKC VA Health Care System staff and with referring providers/teams on patient care issues Participate in regularly scheduled program/clinic team meetings Evaluate and refer patients to appropriate treatment programs or community programs Serve as a consultant to staff on evaluating Veterans with complex vocational problems Place consults for Veterans when clinically indicated Ensure timely documentation and coding in accordance with internal policies and OMHSP MH Coding Guidelines Schedule RTCs per VHA directives and scheduling guidelines Obtain PMDB training per Workplace Behavioral Risk Assessment Develop behavioral health training curricula and conduct trainings for clinical staff Provide clinical supervision to unlicensed LPMHC staff and/or LPMHC trainees May serve as subject matter expert for the discipline May be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Telework: Situational (Ad-Hoc); Virtual: This is not a virtual position Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized PCS: Not Authorized #J-18808-Ljbffr U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
