Staff Cytogenetics Tech - Full Time - Day, 8 hrs

Prepare organ and organ system specimens for clinical diagnostic study of cells for the purpose of recognizing and classifying malignant and benign inflammatory conditions.

Locations: Stanford Health Care

Responsibilities include:

• Adhering to safety/health regulatory and state/federal legal requirements and the policies, operating procedures and Services Standard of the Hospitals.
• Collecting and preparing biological specimens using cytogenetic culture and harvest procedures; preparing microscopic slides using routine banding techniques.
• Maintaining accession records of specimens.
• Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment. Conducting regular assessments and recording the lab equipment's performance, reliability. Notifying appropriate personnel if any issues, exceptions arise. Performing other duties as requested.
• Preparing computer-generated images of chromosomes to capture the suspected abnormalities for further analysis, review.
• Screening and imaging specimens under a microscope. Selecting cells, counting chromosomes, identifying and analyzing any abnormalities making distinctions and judgments based on chromosome structure and cell-cycle kinetics.
• Summarizing results of analysis and preparing routine reports and non-routine results for Lab management review and action.

Education Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university

Experience Qualifications:

• One (1) year of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

• Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
• Knowledge and technical proficiency in specialty areas assigned within the laboratory
• Knowledge of infection prevention policies and procedures
• Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility

Licenses and Certifications:

• CLS or
• CACCS- Clin Cytogeneticist Scientist.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $69.10 - $77.81 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
