Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric ICU night shift position requiring an active AK RN license and 2 years of PICU experience.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting within the Pediatric ICU (PICU) unit
• 13-week assignment with night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
• PICU patient ratio is 1:2, with ventilated patients typically 1:1 due to unit geography
• Pediatric floor ratios are 1:4 for reference
• Support staff includes CNAs and a med clerk; charge nurse typically carries no patient assignments
• No pod structure within the unit
• Required to work every other weekend
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating required within scope to NICU and Peds units as needed
• Block scheduling accommodated
• May occasionally check off orientees who are training in PICU, though this would not be the primary assignment
• Uses Cerner charting system; Epic experience preferred

Requirements

• Active AK RN license required prior to start; compact license accepted at time of submission with proof of full AK license application
• Minimum 2 years of PICU nursing experience required
• BLS and PALS certifications required
• NRP certification copy required with submission
• Previous charge nurse experience required
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Skills needed include ventilator management, central line care, IV therapy, hemodynamic monitoring, and pediatric dosage calculations
• Experience with neurologic care including EVD, ICP monitoring, and post-neurosurgery care preferred
• Must be culturally sensitive to the Native population
• COVID vaccination required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care in a Magnet-designated acute care hospital with 152 staffed beds
• Navy scrub color required; scrubs provided for L&D/OR staff
• Modules averaging 4-5 hours are completed onsite during orientation and annually via HealthStream
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates are not accepted; must reside at least 100 miles from the facility
• Previous staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 2 years before returning as a traveler
• No changes to contract terms (RTO, start dates, shifts, bill rates) accepted once signed
• No cost for parking; travelers encouraged to use the on-site parking structure
