Operations Manager – Commercial Building Materials Distribution

Danbury, CT | Onsite, Mon–Fri · $70K–$80K+ depending on experience + cell phone allowance & gas reimbursement

Position Overview

Working closely with the Branch Manager, you will help improve operational performance, strengthen customer relationships, develop team members, and support the branch's continued growth and profitability. The ideal candidate is a proactive, hands-on leader with experience in distribution, building materials, construction supply, warehouse operations, or a related industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with the Branch Manager to oversee daily branch, warehouse, inventory, logistics, and customer-service operations
• Help ensure orders are processed accurately, inventory is maintained effectively, and customer commitments are met
• Identify and implement process improvements that increase productivity, service quality, and profitability
• Monitor branch KPIs and help develop action plans to improve operational results
• Ensure compliance with company policies, operating procedures, and workplace safety requirements
• Provide day-to-day leadership and operational coverage when the Branch Manager is unavailable
• Support the sales team in achieving revenue, margin, and profitability goals
• Build lasting relationships with commercial contractors, customers, vendors, and business partners
• Supervise, coach, and support branch employees in a fast-paced distribution environment
• Train and mentor employees to strengthen operational knowledge, customer-service skills, and productivity
• Assist with recruiting, onboarding, employee development, and performance evaluations
• Assist with branch budgeting, expense management, forecasting, and financial reporting
• Support inventory purchasing, replenishment, cycle counts, stock management, and loss-prevention efforts

Qualifications

• 2+ years of leadership, supervisory, or team-lead experience in distribution, building materials, construction supply, wholesale operations, logistics, or a related industry
• Working knowledge of branch operations, sales support, inventory management, logistics, and customer service
• Demonstrated ability to coach, motivate, and develop employees
• Strong communication, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
• Customer-focused mindset with the ability to build productive internal and external relationships
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and business, inventory, ERP, or warehouse-management systems
• Experience with commercial building products, contractor customers, purchasing, or inventory control strongly preferred
