Environmental Scientist/Specialist Senior- Restoration Crew Leader | Elmhurst, IL

Position Overview Davey Resource Group, a Davey Company, is looking for an experienced Environmental Scientist/Restoration Specialist. This role will lead and train fellow team members on all aspects of field work and communicate with clients professionally. Job Duties The Environmental Specialist will provide services and solutions for government, utility, commercial, private and not‑for‑profit clients, managing natural resources and ensuring compliance with policies. Key responsibilities include: Work with the project manager to understand contract needs and develop appropriate solutions. Inspect a wide range of habitats and assess their condition, health, and functionality according to client specifications. Identify local species, understand their characteristics, and recognize common diseases and pests. Train and mentor teammates. Work is primarily outdoors, often in inclement weather. May involve heavy equipment such as spray rigs, backpack sprayers, augers, chain saws, mowers, etc., and assistance with wetland delineation and city tree inventories. Qualifications Education and Credentials: Illinois Department of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicator License – required. Prescribed burn experience with S130/S190 certification. Degree in biology, botany, ecology, conservation, environmental science, or related field. Driver’s license and clean driving record (Class C license) – required. Class C license and willingness to travel – required. Experience: Three to five years of ecological restoration experience. Experience with operating heavy equipment, forestry mower, tractor, etc. preferred. Leading crews of 1‑4 people – preferred. Natural resource consulting experience – preferred. Ability to read construction plans and specifications to assign work to crew members – preferred. CDL Class A Driver – preferred. Additional Information 40‑50 hours per week, Monday‑Friday with some optional Saturdays. Starting hourly wage: $22‑$25 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
