This entry-level Production & Assembly Technician role supports the manufacturing of industrial fiber optic communication equipment, including converters, fiber optic cables, ethernet switches, and power supplies. You will work in a shop environment as part of the production team, performing general assembly tasks and contributing to the efficient and accurate build of high-quality products.

Responsibilities

• Assemble products by screwing together parts, brackets, and other components according to instructions and samples.

• Perform kitting activities by accurately counting and organizing components to assemble kits for production.

• Use hand tools and small power tools such as screwdrivers, crimpers, wire cutters, and hand drills to make or repair parts and products.

• Cut and measure wiring and cables to specified lengths and requirements.

• Crimp wires and cables to ensure secure and reliable connections.

• Interpret technical documents such as bills of materials and follow verbal or written instructions to complete assembly tasks.

• Work collaboratively with other members of the production line or group to assemble products efficiently.

• Prepare materials for assembly, including deburring metal brackets, assembling metal brackets, and cutting and painting wood as needed.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and tidy workspace to support safety and productivity.

• Meet all company and industry safety requirements and follow established safety procedures at all times.

• Identify defective items or components and handle them according to established quality control procedures.

• Use reasoning and problem-solving skills to address issues that arise during assembly or production.

• Perform repetitive tasks while sitting or standing for extended periods, maintaining focus and accuracy.

• Lift and carry materials and components weighing up to 25 lbs as part of daily production activities.

Essential Skills

• Ability to perform wiring, crimping, and stripping using hand tools and power tools.

• Proficiency in crimping, stripping, and cutting wires with consistent quality.

• Capability to follow samples and work off samples; ability to interpret blueprints and schematics is a plus.

• Skill in using various hand tools and power tools to perform mechanical assembly tasks.

• Ability to work using a microscope and magnifying glass for detailed assembly work.

• High School Diploma or GED.

• Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate assembly and quality workmanship.

• Excellent hand-eye coordination for precise handling of small parts and tools.

• Mechanical aptitude and experience operating hand drills, drill presses, table saws, and grinders.

• Willingness to perform repetitive tasks while sitting or standing for extended periods of time.

• Good eyesight, including depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to differentiate between colors.

• Sufficient mobility to perform moderate or light lifting between 5–25 lbs and to stand or sit for prolonged periods daily.

• Effective communication skills and the ability to follow directions and work independently when required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with cable assembly and kitting in a production or manufacturing environment.

• Familiarity with measuring tools for accurate cutting and preparation of wiring and cables.

• Comfort working in a small team assembly environment and coordinating tasks with others.

• Ability to meet production goals while maintaining quality and safety standards.

• Basic understanding of bills of materials and production documentation.

• Adaptability to shop and manufacturing environments and willingness to learn new processes and tools.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility with approximately 25–30 team members, including about 5 people in the assembly department, offering a collaborative and focused production setting. The position is on first shift, with typical hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will work in a shop environment using hand tools, power tools, microscopes, and magnifying glasses, and will be expected to stand or sit for extended periods while performing repetitive tasks and lifting 5–25 lbs. The facility emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety standards, providing a structured and professional atmosphere for assembly work.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orange, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
