Overview A Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) is responsible for performing physical examinations, utilizing diagnostic testing, making diagnoses, and managing the treatment of common episodic women’s health problems. Scope of Practice Midwifery care includes the management of primary health screening, health promotion, and the provision of care from adolescence through the lifespan, including the neonatal period. This encompasses care related to preconception, pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum recovery, normal newborn recovery, infant feeding (including human lactation), comprehensive gynecologic, reproductive, and sexual health care, and post-menopausal care. Responsibilities CNMs work in a variety of settings, including clinics, ambulatory health centers, and hospitals. CNMs write orders and make rounds in hospital settings. Patient care may vary by setting depending on the facility and the CNM's expertise. CNMs may perform procedures such as insertion of intrauterine pressure catheters, amniotomy, birth maneuvers, episiotomy, laceration repair, pudendal analgesia, newborn circumcision, and insertion of contraceptive devices. Schedule This position requires rotation to different work sites and may also involve evening, night, weekend, and holiday hours. On-call hours may also be required. #J-18808-Ljbffr usf.edu
