Volunteer Opportunity Overview
Amedisys Hospice is seeking Veteran Volunteers to support hospice patients—particularly fellow Veterans—through companionship and emotional support. Veteran-to-Veteran connections offer a unique bond rooted in shared experience, respect, and understanding.
This volunteer role allows Veterans to continue serving others in a deeply meaningful and compassionate way.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide companionship and supportive presence to hospice patients
- Offer emotional support through conversation, listening, or quiet reflection
- Support Veteran patients by honoring and acknowledging their military service
- Assist with activities such as reading, letter writing, or reminiscing
- Maintain patient confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Communicate and collaborate with the hospice care team as needed
Qualifications
- Veteran status (all branches welcome; active duty, reserve, or retired)
- Compassionate, dependable, and respectful demeanor
- Comfortable providing support in end-of-life settings
- Strong listening and communication skills
- Completion of Amedisys Hospice volunteer training and orientation (provided)
- Background screening in accordance with hospice regulations
No prior hospice or healthcare experience is required.
