Phlebotomist Days 5am-1:30pm (Mon-Fridays Rotating Weekend and Holidays)

Job Summary Phlebotomy is a technical and empathetic role that requires steady skill, a calm mindset, and a commitment to excellent patient care. A Phlebotomist at East Jefferson General Hospital performs venipuncture and skin puncture, manages specimen collection and documentation, and ensures timely delivery of specimens to the laboratory. Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and skin puncture in accordance with standard procedures. Use handheld devices for specimen collection. Monitor collection lists and document the status of outstanding collections. Ensure STAT specimens are delivered to the lab within 15 minutes of collection, or arrange for pickup. Update specimen status to reflect collecting date/time, receipt date/time, and delivery to the appropriate lab section. Communicate complaints or problems to the department supervisor. Collect data for the quality assurance program, maintain thorough documentation, and monitor and clear collection pending reports. Demonstrate knowledge of standard phlebotomy techniques and appropriate blood processing and handling procedures. Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Engage with patients, families, and care team members during significant events, patient condition changes, or patient questions and concerns. Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communication, and an exceptional patient experience. Assist team members when needed without being asked. Requirements / Must-Haves High School Diploma/GED, or 2 years of applicable experience, or Phlebotomist certification. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
