This unit features a mix of acuity levels and will include intermediate care patients as well as non-vented ICU level patients. Unit Details Beds: 18 beds Level II Trauma Center Level III NICU Primary Stroke Center Patient Types/Common Diagnoses Neurological and post-procedural patients Post TNK and Neuro IR procedures (Embolizations, angiography, hemorrhages/aneurysms) Burr holes, post VP shunt placements, post craniotomy/craniectomy Spinal cord injuries, non-vented neuro patients including EVDs Continuous EEG monitoring, neuro/spine surgery Respiratory failure, CHF, hypotension, sepsis, acute neurological diagnoses DKA, electrolyte abnormalities Patient Ratios RN: 1:3 based on acuity CNA: 1:12 Qualifications Minimum of 1 year of ICU experience required First-time travelers accepted with a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience Required licenses: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Essential Skills Management of patients on BiPAP/CPAP Cardiac rhythm interpretation CVP monitoring and hemodynamic line monitoring Post-surgical drain management, including tracheostomies and chest tubes Administration of titratable drips (Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Esmolol, Insulin, Cardene, Nitro, Levophed, Epinephrine) Support within the Department CNA assistance with patient care tasks Receptionist/Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) support Phlebotomy services IV/Vascular Access Team available Rapid Response Team access Resource Nurse availability Dedicated educator and nurse mentor 24/7 access to Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist, and Intensivist Technology/Equipment EMR: Cerner IV Pump: Plum 360 Medication dispensing: Omnicell Monitors: Spacelabs & Resparray Unit-specific equipment: Bedside monitors, bladder scanner Scheduling Information Weekend rotation: Every other weekend, may occasionally work back-to-back weekends Holiday Expectations: One major and one minor seasonal holiday Time off Requests: Up to 7 days may be approved, subject to blackout dates Shift times: 7 AM - 7 PM, 7 PM - 7 AM Schedule cycle: 6 weeks Orientation Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1 or more years will complete a 24-hour classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit.
