Maintenance Technician

Description Compensation: $31.87/hour - $34.07/hour

Position Summary:

The Childrens Aid Facilities Department is looking for a Maintenance Technician with significant experience in multiple trade work, including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, interior, exterior, lighting and power repair and installations. Childrens Aid maintains over 40 facilities primarily throughout the Bronx, Harlem, Washington Heights, Midtown, and Staten Island. The Maintenance Technician will report to our Bronx Facilities office and be part of an experienced, fast-moving team.

Essential Duties:

Understand and promote the organizations Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.

Performs duties as assigned by Lead Mechanic in accordance with maintenance work requests in a professional and timely fashion.

Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair, as well as perform preventive maintenance and modifications to buildings and equipment; this includes Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Boilers, Pumps, Blowers, Carpentry and other disciplines at all Childrens Aid locations.

Ensures that all required tools and supplies are brought to the work site for the jobs as is detailed on all projects and assignments.

Adheres to all safety and housekeeping policies to maintain a safe and clean working environment in the performance of maintenance tasks.

Maintains strong communication with supervisor; regularly estimates amount of time and products needed in a project, provides regular status updates on project and effectively closes out work assignments.

Advises when a job is completed or if additional support is needed to complete a specific task.

Informs supervisor when specific supplies and stock parts need replacement.

Gives suggestions to site custodial staff on how to address minor problems before having to involve the Facilities Department.

Provides on-site training/instruction when possible.

Identifies life safety/compliance/potential repair issues or potential problems that may arise and communicates for corrective actions to be taken.

Informs Site Directors or authorized parties when work requests have been completed and obtains their signature on the work requests.

Maintains a level of cleanliness and organization within the maintenance shop and maintenance vehicles.

Communicates with co-workers and shares experiences and knowledge to further enhance and strengthen the teams abilities to address and successfully handle future situations. Contributes to knowledge base.

Perform other duties as assigned .

Professional Development:

Participate in offered trainings, workshops, In-Service days, and/or All-Staff conferences.

Maintain certification requirement and proof of attendance in professional activities.

Health and Safety:

Adhere to all state and city licensing requirements and CPR/first aid certification.

Maintain a healthy and safe work environment in the performance of all assigned tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

5-7 years experience in facilities repair and maintenance.

Valid New York State drivers license required.

Key Competencies:

Experience with aging building, older infrastructure, preferably in a community site or school.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Good computer skills; ability to close out a work ticket, email communication; and ability to write a status report.
