Location: Littleton, CO | Hybrid - 3 Days In Office / 2 Days Remote

Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000 base salary

About the Role

We are partnering with a growing, project-based organization in the commercial construction and recreation space seeking a Controller to take ownership of the company's financial operations and help build greater visibility, discipline, and predictability across the business.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for a finance professional who can operate at both the strategic and transactional level. The Controller will be responsible for understanding the full financial picture of the organization while also being willing to stay close to the day-to-day accounting work as the company continues to scale.

The business has grown to approximately $14-15M in annual revenue and is looking for a financial leader who can move the organization beyond reactive bookkeeping and year-end financial surprises. This individual will establish stronger reporting, forecasting, WIP visibility, project-level financial controls, and proactive financial partnership with ownership and the sales organization.

The ideal candidate understands project-based accounting, knows how to connect financial reporting to what is actually happening in the field, and is comfortable building structure in an organization that is ready to mature its financial function.

What You'll Do

• Take ownership of the company's accounting and financial operations, maintaining a clear and current view of overall financial performance
• Manage and improve pay application processes and the flow of money into and out of the organization
• Own monthly financial reporting, including P&L visibility, balance sheet accuracy, cash flow, and management reporting
• Develop forecasting processes that give ownership a more accurate understanding of expected profitability throughout the year
• Manage WIP and percentage-of-completion accounting for project-based work
• Improve project-level revenue recognition, cost tracking, profitability, and margin visibility
• Partner with sales representatives before contracts are executed to identify potential financial risks or gaps related to sales tax, bonding, pricing, payment terms, and contract structure
• Oversee sales tax compliance and help determine appropriate tax treatment based on project and contract structure
• Manage bonding and insurance requirements, including renewals, audits, reporting, and coordination with external partners
• Provide analysis around overhead, markup, gross margin, and true project profitability
• Support pricing decisions and help leadership better understand how operational decisions impact financial performance
• Manage and monitor company budgets, including marketing and other overhead expenses
• Serve as the primary financial liaison to the company's outside tax accountant and support year-end tax preparation
• Maintain appropriate accounting controls, reconciliations, documentation, and financial processes
• Handle day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping responsibilities where needed while helping determine when additional transactional accounting support should be added
• Build scalable financial processes and reporting infrastructure that can support the company's continued growth
• Serve as a trusted financial partner to ownership, providing proactive insight rather than simply reporting historical results

What We're Looking For

• Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar progressive accounting experience within a project-based environment
• Experience within construction, design-build, engineering, infrastructure, specialty contracting, or a related industry strongly preferred
• Manufacturing or other project-oriented accounting backgrounds may also be considered
• Strong understanding of WIP, percentage-of-completion accounting, revenue recognition, and project-based financial reporting
• Experience managing pay applications, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cash flow
• Working knowledge of sales tax considerations within construction or project-based contracts
• Experience supporting bonding, insurance audits, and related financial reporting requirements
• Strong understanding of P&L management, forecasting, budgeting, overhead allocation, margin analysis, and profitability
• Ability to analyze project and company financial performance and translate that information into clear recommendations for non-financial leaders
• Comfortable reviewing contracts and identifying financial considerations before projects are executed
• Experience partnering directly with business owners, sales teams, project managers, and external accounting partners
• Hands-on mentality with the willingness to work at both the Controller and bookkeeping level when needed
• Demonstrated progression and increasing responsibility throughout your accounting career
• Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and attention to detail
• Ability to build processes and improve financial infrastructure rather than simply maintain existing systems
• Comfortable working within a growing entrepreneurial organization where priorities may evolve as the business scales
