Job Title: Die Polisher

Job Description

The Die Polisher is responsible for precisely polishing and resurfacing die bores and cavities used to extrude or draw metal materials into hoses, bars, tubes, rods, wires, and structural shapes. This role focuses on restoring dies to specified sizes and angles, ensuring smooth finishes, and supporting consistent, high-quality production.

Responsibilities

• Polish and resurface bores and cavities of dies to specified sizes and angles using hand laps, die polishing machines, tools, and cutting pastes.
• Inspect worn dies to determine the extent of wear using steel gauge pins, calipers, and other measuring tools.
• Examine dies for cracks, defects, and smoothness of finish, and take appropriate corrective actions.
• Resurface and clean dies using powered drills, grinders, files, and other hand tools as needed.
• Read and interpret die prints to understand the exposed surfaces and required specifications of each die.
• Operate basic production and press machinery as needed to support die-related processes.
• Use tape measures and inspection tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Handle general production and general labor tasks related to die maintenance and preparation.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area while working safely with mechanical tools and equipment.
• Complete other tasks and assignments as directed by leadership to support production and maintenance needs.

Essential Skills

• Ability to clean, polish, and resurface dies using mechanical tools and equipment.
• Experience using hand tools such as files, grinders, and powered drills in a production or mechanical environment.
• Proficiency with measurement tools, including tape measures, steel gauge pins, and calipers.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints or die prints to understand specifications and exposed surfaces.
• Basic machine operation skills, including working with production and press machines.
• Attention to detail for inspecting dies for cracks, wear, and finish quality.
• Willingness to learn and train on die polishing processes and equipment.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and machinery in a manufacturing setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Manufacturing experience in industries such as printing, plastics, food, or medical production is welcome.
• Previous lead experience or experience in training others is preferred.
• Experience with general production, inspection, and mechanical work is beneficial.
• Hands-on experience, such as work on a farm or similar mechanical environment, is highly valued for mechanical abilities and flexibility.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks in a production environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing setting that involves working with metal dies, mechanical tools, and production equipment. The environment can be somewhat dirty, and you should be comfortable getting your clothes stained during the workday. You will work around powered drills, grinders, hand tools, and press machines, following safety procedures while handling mechanical equipment and inspection tools.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chaska, MN.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
