We are seeking an organized and people-oriented Project ACORN Liaison to ensure the successful operation of the zoo’s Project ACORN urban forestry internship program. Project ACORN is a collaboration between the zoo, the City of Akron, and Davey Tree Expert Company working to develop an urban forestry workforce in Akron. Interns participate in classroom time and at outdoor locations planting and caring for trees.
Hourly Pay : $25-$35 an hour pay range.
Dates : 8-4:30 each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from August 31, 2026- October 22, 2026
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend to the needs of 6-8 interns during all eight weeks of the internship.
- Drive a company vehicle to transport interns to work sites and field trip locations.
- Encourage or correct interns as needed to ensure they complete work as assigned.
- Serve as point of contact for Davey Tree Expert Company instructors.
- Maintain accurate timesheets for payroll processing.
- Maintain the inventory of tools used in the course of business.
- Assist with logistics and ordering.
- Provide constructive feedback to interns regarding progress.
- High School Diploma/GED
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and good communication skills.
- Supervising small work crews
- Valid Ohio driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in gardening, landscaping, or tree care.
- Familiarity with common tools and equipment used in landscaping or tree care.
