Medical Laboratory Scientist Sr.- Dallas Sammons

Overview Texas Oncology is looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Dallas Sammons location. This is a full-time position with typical hours Monday–Friday 8:30 am–5:00 pm. The role will be Level 1, 2, or Sr based on relevant candidate experience. Texas Oncology is the largest community oncology provider in the country, with over 600 providers in more than 200 sites across Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. Long-Term Incentive Plan (LTIP) The LTIP is an incentive program that vests over a three-year period and is tied to individual performance and the operational success of Texas Oncology. Awards are discretionary and based on position, performance, and potential for future career growth. LTIP awards are reviewed and approved during the annual compensation review and are subject to continued employment through the award payment date. Responsibilities Assists with phlebotomy and collection of specimens as ordered, ensuring pre-authorization and completion of consent forms for limited coverage tests. Assists with special procedures (e.g., bone marrow in room). Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance. Performs specimen analysis of all chemistry, hematology, and immunology specimens. Maintains and operates laboratory equipment; performs daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance. Adheres to quality control policies and documents all QC activities, calibrations, and maintenance. Participates in proficiency testing and reports results. Prepares peripheral blood smears and performs WBC differentials; examines urinary sediment microscopically. Records results on worksheets and computer systems; processes specimens for send-out testing. Identifies and corrects problems affecting test performance or reporting; documents corrective actions. Maintains documentation per the quality assurance program (accession logs, test report logs, QC logs, equipment records). Verifies critical results and documents accurate follow-up. Manages inventory of supplies and prepares reagents, stains, and solutions. Sends specimens to reference laboratories when needed. Processes lab order entries and in-house/manual results for charting. Charts patient results promptly. Properly identifies and bands patients for blood product transfusion per local bloodbank policy. Trains employees in laboratory procedures. May serve as primary operator for at least one laboratory instrument. Participates in development of new instruments and procedures. Acts as a resource for laboratory science information. May oversee daily laboratory activities in absence of supervisor. Complies with quality assurance standards, OSHA laws, Universal Precautions, and regulatory agency requirements. Disposes of hazardous materials properly; maintains a clean working environment; maintains confidentiality of patient and staff information. Performs CLIA-classified moderate and high complexity testing with minimal supervision. Qualifications Level 1 – Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field; OR relevant experience. Level 1 – Associate’s degree with four (4) years of related work experience; OR eight (8) years of related work experience. Current state license if required; AMT, ASCP or equivalent certification preferred. Position is entry level and requires no experience; licensure and certification requirements depend on state; bachelor’s degree required unless grandfathered. Level 2 – Minimum three (3) years of experience in addition to Level 1 requirements. Level Sr – Minimum five (5) years of experience in addition to Levels 1 and 2 requirements. Physical Demands Full range of body motion with manual and finger dexterity; ability to sit, stand, and use arms; occasional lifting up to 40 lb; corrected vision, color perception, hearing; legible handwriting. Work Environment Performed in an office environment with significant interaction with management, staff, auditors, and clients.
