Data Operations Director

We are looking for a Data Operations Director to join our team. In this role, you will oversee and identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business growth, enhance decision-making, and improve operational efficiency within our Key Accounts/Retail domain. You will direct a team of data-focused professionals, manage complex operational BI projects, and ensure that data insights align with our strategic goals. This leadership position includes performance management, staff development, employee engagement, and disciplinary actions as required. Responsibilities Monitor the performance of operational BI systems, including data processing efficiency, analytics accuracy, and reporting tool responsiveness. Identify and address issues or bottlenecks and optimize processes through automation where appropriate. Establish, refine, and optimize data management practices related to data quality, data ownership, data lifecycle management, and data privacy. Motivate, mentor, coach, and train employees for professional development, engagement, and continuous improvement. Set high performance expectations, audit those expectations, and provide positive and constructive feedback to ensure standards are met. Support the Account Team by performing tasks directed by Account Directors, Managers, and Leaders. Manage a team that includes roles such as Client Data Strategist, Data Project Manager, Data Specialist, and Retail Program Data Manager. Oversee the data team onboarding and training processes. Interpret data findings to support strategic decision-making and work closely with other departments to understand their data needs. Facilitate communication between data teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment on data strategies and objectives. Use data-driven insights to guide business decisions with significant impact on operations and strategy. Provide recommendations to senior leadership based on thorough data analysis. Organize and conduct training sessions for the data analytics team on the latest tools and methodologies. Ensure tools and software used by the team are up-to-date and meet organizational needs. Keep abreast of industry trends and incorporate new methods and technologies into the team’s workflow. Collaborate with other personnel and external vendors for data acquisition or technology tooling needs. Perform miscellaneous projects and tasks as requested by management. Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience Proven experience in a data operations role with 3–5 years in a managerial position and a total of 7+ years in the data domain Excellent leadership and team management skills with a track record of leading data operations or reporting teams Experience with continuous improvement concepts (lean, Six Sigma, or TQM) Experience with SQL and data visualization/reporting tools (Tableau or QuickSight; QuickSight preferred) Required Skills and Attributes Make quality decisions with good judgment and problem-solving to improve workflows Drive results, take initiative, and manage time effectively to meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude Be accountable and take ownership of commitments Collaborate and operate as a team to deliver on time and within budget Passion for excellence and drive for quality in all outputs Experience taking spreadmarts to centralized datamarts or data products Strong communication skills to convey complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders Experience developing and implementing data management and governance frameworks Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment Excellent written and verbal communication for translating data findings into actionable insights To Get Hired Effective verbal and written communication; strong interpersonal skills Willingness to acknowledge mistakes and learn from them Loyalty to customers and teams Trustworthy, reliable, and easy to work with Enthusiastic and eager to take on new challenges Adaptable and willing to take on various roles as needed Company Overview We are a 1,000-person visual merchandising company We are 100% employee-owned Generous paid time off that increases with tenure Full-time position in Chanhassen, MN Compensation and Benefits Compensation Range: $124,500 - $160,000 annually Range reflects our good-faith assessment of our hiring range for this role based on market conditions, experience level, and internal equity considerations.
