Job Description\n Amergis Healthcare Staffing, Inc.-Allied is seeking a travel Cytotechnologist for a travel job in Galveston, Texas.Job Description & Requirements\n \n Specialty: Cytotechnologist\n Discipline: Allied Health Professional\n Duration: 26 weeks\n 40 hours per week\n Shift: 8 hours, days\n Employment Type: Travel\n \n \n The Cytotechnologist stains, mounts, and studies cells to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities, and other pathological conditions following established standards and practices.\n The Cytotechnologist coordinates and participates in specialized and complex technical tasks involved in screening slides of clinical specimens to detect evidence of abnormalities and pathological concerns.\n \n Minimum Requirements:\n \n \n Bachelor of Science degree in biological science or related field preferred.\n One (1) 1 year of experience as a Cytotechnologist preferred.\n Current CPR if applicable\n TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable\n Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)\n Must meet all federal, state and local requirements\n Must be at least 18 years of age\n \n \n \n \n Position Details\n \n Modality:\n Cytotechnologist\n \n Hours per Week:\n 40\n \n Contract Length:\n 6 Month(s)\n \n Start Date:\n 09/28/2026\n \n Details of Assignment:\n \n Job summary:\n \n Cytotechnologist provides clinical diagnostic study of cells for the purpose of recognizing and classifying malignant and benign inflammatory and irritative conditions.\n \n Assignment length: 6 months\n \n Shift: Monday – Friday, 7:30a – 4p\n \n Essential job functions:\n \n Fixes, stains, and prepares microscopic slides to preserve specimen and enhance visibility.\n Evaluates cell color, shape, and size to determine abnormalities.\n \n · Examines human cell samples to determine the presence of precancerous changes, cancer, or infections.\n \n Performs a variety of laboratory procedures.\n Assists clinicians within the hospital for the procurement of material from fine needle aspirations.\n \n · Assures specimen labeling requirements are met and all necessary clinical information is available.\n · Responds to inquiries regarding test results, methodology, and specific factors that can influence test results.\n · Assists with or performs accessioning, processing, and staining of specimens in accordance with the cytology processing manual.\n \n Records classification and presents unusual characteristics to the pathologist.\n Maintains records of assignments performed in cytology section.\n Maintains accurate inventory to complete work, and orders supplies as needed.\n The Cytotechnologist is responsible for recording:\n \n The slide interpretation results of each case examined or reviewed.\n For each 24-hour period, the total number of slides examined or reviewed in all laboratories.\n The number of hours spent examining slides in each 24-hour period.\n \n \n \n Education & Experience:\n \n Bachelor’s degree in related field (Cytotechnology, Biology, Chemistry, Life Sciences, or Pre-med)\n Experience working in a large health system\n \n \n Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:\n \n BLS obtained through American Heart Association\n CT (ASCP): Cytotechnologist – issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC)\n \n \n Equipment:\n \n Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or office environments.\n Microscope, centrifuges, filtration apparatus, automatic stainer, chemical reagents, pipettes, and other laboratory equipment.\n \n \n HCSS New Employee Orientation and Training:\n \n Monday, 9/28 – virtual, through Microsoft Teams\n Date TBD - Beaker Ap for Technician – in person Epic training at the Galveston Campus\n \n \n \n \n \n Benefits At Amergis, we firmly believe that our employees are the heartbeat of our organization and we are happy to offer the following benefits:\n \n Competitive pay & weekly paychecks\n Health, dental, vision, and life insurance\n 401(k) savings plan\n Awards and recognition programs\n \n *Benefit eligibility is dependent on employment status. \n \n About Amergis Amergis, formerly known as Maxim Healthcare Staffing, has served our clients and communities by connecting people to the work that matters since 1988.
