Senior AccountantThe Senior Accountant is responsible for performing advanced professional accounting work, including overseeing transactional posting, tuition and fee revenue recognition, general ledger activity, financial analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations. This role requires the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in evaluating financial data, resolving complex issues, and determining appropriate accounting treatment.The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting, supporting the month-end close process, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.Accountabilities / Responsibilities:Oversee and review daily posting of transactional activity to ensure accuracy and completenessManage and record tuition and fee transactions in accordance with institutional policies and accounting standardsPrepare, review, and analyze general ledger entries, ensuring appropriate classification and compliance with GAAPDevelop and maintain detailed balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules, investigating and resolving variancesPrepare financial reports and perform analytical reviews to identify trends, discrepancies, and areas of concernExercise independent judgment in evaluating financial transactions and determining proper accounting treatmentLead or significantly contribute to the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completionReview accounting transactions performed by others to ensure accuracy and adherence to policiesAssist with audits, compliance requirements, and regulatory reporting by providing analysis and supporting documentationSupport budgeting and forecasting activities through financial analysis and insightsMentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff, supporting professional development and adherence to best practicesRecommend and implement process improvements to strengthen controls, efficiency, and reporting accuracyGeneral Expectations:Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical judgment in all financial activitiesExercise discretion and independent judgment in handling complex accounting matters and sensitive informationEnsure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all financial data and deliverablesMaintain strict confidentiality of financial and organizational informationProactively identify issues, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutionsEffectively manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentCollaborate cross-functionally to support organizational objectives and financial reporting accuracyContinuously seek opportunities to improve processes, controls, and overall accounting operations
