Registered Nurse, Operating Room

Novant Health is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse for the Operating Room to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care to surgical patients, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality experiences before, during, and after procedures. As a key member of the interdisciplinary surgical team, you will function primarily as a circulating nurse and may also scrub for selected procedures, supporting surgeons, anesthesia providers, and surgical technologists throughout the operative process.
Your responsibilities will include performing thorough preoperative assessments, verifying consents and surgical site, and advocating for patient safety at every step. During surgery, you will maintain a sterile environment, manage surgical supplies and instruments, accurately document care in the electronic health record, and continuously monitor patient status, responding promptly to changes or complications. You will participate in time-outs, adhere strictly to infection prevention and OR safety protocols, and ensure accurate counts of instruments and sponges. Postoperatively, you will collaborate with the PACU team to support safe handoffs, pain management, and patient and family education.

Registered Nurses in this Operating Room role should bring strong clinical judgment, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure. You must be comfortable working in an on-site surgical setting with rotating shifts, which may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and on-call responsibilities, as needed to ensure 24/7 coverage.
