Travel RN - Telemetry - Progressive Care Unit

American Traveler is hiring a PCU RN with strong drip and telemetry experience for a night shift assignment requiring NC or compact RN licensure.

Job Details

• PCU functions like an ICU stepdown unit with an ADC of 18 and 20 beds,
• Patient population includes post rapid response, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, post-surgical (GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomy, neuro, ortho), and pre/post OB with complications,
• Patient ages range from adolescent to geriatric,
• Target ratio of 1:3-4,
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-7:15),
• 36 or 48 hours per week available,
• Every other weekend required,
• Floating required as needed to a sister ICCU unit,
• Only one pressor drip per patient allowed on unit; patients requiring more are transferred to ICU,
• Drips administered include Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo,
• Bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup used,
• Unit systems include Pyxis and Epic,
• No ventilators on unit,
• No block scheduling,

Job Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required (pending OK for consideration),
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required,
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS,
• Experience with arterial line management and titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips required,
• Experience with PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown and telemetry required,
• Experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required,
• Experience with IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, and heparin protocols required,
• Experience with central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management required,
• Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BIPAP, HFNC, and nasal cannula required,
• Experience with non-invasive airway management and tracheostomy management required,
• Experience with isolation precautions/PPE required,
• Experience with IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and conscious sedation required,
• Epic charting experience preferred,
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start,

Additional Information

• Provide critical care-level nursing support in a fast-paced stepdown environment,
• Utilize rapid response teams for deteriorating patients,
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply,
• Scrubs must be navy, white, or a combination of both,
• Hospital orientation occurs during the first week; availability for daily classes is required,
• Must complete online pre-start modules (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), with browser access via Chrome or Edge,
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment,
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays,
• Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission,
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate,
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required,
• Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status, not both
