THE ORGANIZATION

Tanenbaum promotes justice and builds respect for religious difference by transforming individuals and institutions to reduce prejudice, hatred, and violence. As a secular and non-sectarian non-profit, Tanenbaum works to promote religious peacebuilders who help counter extremism and violence in armed conflicts, and tackles religious bullying of students, harassment in workplaces, and disparate health treatment for people based on their beliefs.

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM

The Research and Special Projects Intern position is an exciting opportunity to impact fundraising in a dynamic nonprofit organization. Tanenbaum’s Development Department is responsible for developing and sustaining the organization’s financial base through the recruitment, cultivation and stewardship of individual donors and institutional funders.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Research and Special Projects Intern will work collaboratively with all members of the Development Department. Serving between 15-25 hours per week, the Research and Special Projects Intern will assist with individual donor prospect identification and research. They will research potential donors and make recommendations based on the research for which programs/projects to pursue. The Research and Special Projects Intern will also work with both the Development and Communications staff on projects to expand our donor communication and outreach. If based in the NYC area, the intern will attend and assist with the execution of Tanenbaum’s July donor cultivation event, the Summer Soiree. The position reports to the Senior Development Associate. This internship is an exciting experiential opportunity to gain professional experience in a dynamic organization that is addressing one of the most critical issues of our time. Responsibilities will include the following: Research and make recommendations for major individual donor prospects Assist in creating donor spotlights and acknowledgements through online E-letter and videoplatforms Actively participate in Development team meetings Such other responsibilities as may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS

Commitment to the mission and goals of Tanenbaum Excellent writing and research skills Ability to analyze data and create clear written materials Interest in and some knowledge of fundraising Detail-oriented and highly organized Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment Computer skills, including Microsoft Office Sense of humor Candidates who are available for Summer 2026 will be prioritized

COMPENSATION AND ACADEMIC CREDIT

This is an unpaid internship structured for academic credit or university-funded stipends. Tanenbaum will work with you and your school so that you can receive academic credit and/or university-funded stipends for the internship. Candidates should check with their school to confirm eligibility before applying.

All work produced for Tanenbaum by the employee is the work product of Tanenbaum and may not be used by the employee outside of Tanenbaum-authorized activities.
