Under the direction of the Senior Human Resources Business Partner, the Onboarding/HR Specialist provides operational and administrative HR support for assigned client groups, including onboarding, employee lifecycle administration, records management, employee communications, and project coordination. This role is the first point of contact for employees, candidates, hiring managers, and cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring a smooth experience from pre-employment through all stages of employment. While primarily supporting a designated Senior HR Business Partner and business segment, this position operates within a shared services environment and collaborates across subsidiaries as business needs require. Success requires strong organization, attention to detail, a customer-service mindset, and a willingness to support the HR team across multiple business lines. This is a support-level, non-supervisory role. This position is on-site, based in Anchorage, Alaska, and is not eligible for remote work. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned) Employee Onboarding & Lifecycle Administration Support the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, orientation, transfers, promotions, organizational changes, and offboarding activities. Coordinate pre-employment requirements, including background checks, drug screenings, employment documentation, and system access. Serve as the first point of contact for new hires and employees, ensuring a positive and seamless experience from hire through transition activities. Partner with hiring managers, Payroll, IT, Facilities, Procurement, and other stakeholders to ensure timely completion of onboarding and employee transition requirements. Conduct employee check-ins and gather feedback to support engagement, retention, and continuous improvement efforts. HR Operations & Employee Support Serve as a primary resource for HR-related inquiries, providing guidance on policies, procedures, and routine employment matters while escalating complex issues as appropriate. Support HR Business Partners in executing HR programs, initiatives, and day-to-day operational activities. Assist with benefits administration, leave management, employee communications, and HR program rollouts. Support recruiting activities and hiring initiatives as needed, including candidate coordination, career fairs, and interview support. Compliance, Records & Reporting Maintain electronic employee records, personnel files, certifications, training documentation, and HR databases in accordance with company policies and legal requirements. Help maintain the accuracy and integrity of HR data through routine record checks and file maintenance. Assist with compliance documentation and recordkeeping in support of EEO, AAP, and other workforce reporting, as directed. Maintain confidentiality of employee information and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. Process Improvement & Project Coordination Coordinate HR projects, track timelines and deliverables, and support project implementation as assigned. Help maintain and update HR forms, templates, checklists, and standard operating procedures. Track onboarding and HR metrics and flag trends or issues to the HR Business Partner. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Strong organizational, project coordination, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills. Ability to build relationships and effectively coordinate activities across multiple departments and stakeholders. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR technology platforms, including HRIS, ATS, and onboarding systems. Ability to use data to support day-to-day HR operations and reporting. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Associate’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Two (2) or more years of experience in Human Resources, onboarding, recruiting coordination, or related HR functions. Experience supporting onboarding, employee lifecycle administration, and HR operations in a fast-paced environment. Experience using HRIS, ATS, and onboarding systems; iCIMS experience preferred. Working knowledge of employment laws, HR compliance, documentation, and records management practices. Strong knowledge, understanding, and sensitivity to the Iñupiat culture is required or must be developed soon after hire. Valid driver's license required.
