Job Description & Requirements Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: 09/11/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 48 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel UNIT: 8 East Ortho/Trauma Mixed Acuity-9503001 SimpliFi Clinical Interview with Manager Approval Required License: o BLS, NIHSS Unit Information: mixed acuity o Beds: 15 beds o Minimum Years of Experience required: ▪ 2 years of STAC Stepdown experience required for traditional traveler. ▪ CAP Preceptor: 3 years of Stepdown experience is preferred, as well as at least 6months Level I or II Trauma experience. o Will you accept a first-time traveler? no Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: o Trauma post-surgical, MVA, elective surgeries, Whipple’s, chole’s, GSW, blunt/penetrating trauma’s, assaults, ATV, amputations o Primary ortho injuries which frequently include external fixation devices and pin site care requirements Patient Ratios: o RN: 1:4-6 o LPNs utilized o CNA: 2 CNA’s per shift, 1 clerical during the day Skills required: o Blood Admin, skeletal, bucks traction, drains, JP, Chest Tube management, wound dressings, wound vac management, wound care. Heparin gtt, high flow, stable bipap, Trach care required. There is no drip titration on this unit (if titration is ordered, patient will be transferred to ICU) Support within the Department: o CNA o Receptionist o Charge nurse takes assignment o Phlebotomy staffing dependent, nursing may be responsible for lab collections o Vascular access team o Resource teams: Sepsis and rapid o Shift coordinator during the day o RT 24/7 o Hospitalist 24/7 residents o Specialists 24/7 residents o Intensivist 24/7 o Unit Educator o Remote Telemetry monitoring Technology/Equipment: o Cerner (6 month requirement for CAP preceptor) o IV Pump: Plum ICU Medical o Med dispensing: Omnicell o Monitors: Phillips o Unit specific equipment: sera steady, Arjo lifts, kangaroo pump, sapphire pump for PCA Floating: o Float to mixed acuity only o CAP: If the resident is pulled from the unit for education, training, etc. CAP Preceptor will act as a traditional traveler, including the possibility of floating to like units. Orientation: o NEO: 24 hours (3 days total) – one online training day, 2 in person days for nursing, and modules to complete as well o How many days of unit orientation? One 12-hour shift end of week one, One 12-hour shift at the start of week 2 Scheduling: o Weekend rotation: every other weekend o On call?
