Position Summary The Manager, Corporate Accounting is a key member of the Accounting Operations team responsible for overseeing assigned accounting processes across various Carlyle consolidated entities. The Manager is accountable for the timely and accurate completion of assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting activities, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, variance and trend analysis, and related financial reporting support. The Manager will review and approve work prepared by Senior and Staff Accountants, directly perform or review more complex and judgmental accounting activities, and ensure significant issues are identified, investigated, resolved, and escalated appropriately. In addition, the Manager will oversee the accounting execution for new, complex, or non‑routine transactions within assigned areas. The Manager will ensure accounting guidance provided by the Accounting Policy team is understood and translated into accurate accounting entries, controls, reconciliations, and operational procedures. The Manager is expected to exercise sound judgment in recognizing when a transaction or accounting matter is unclear, complex, or outside established guidance and to engage the Accounting Policy team for additional guidance when appropriate. Examples may include new accounting standards, joint ventures, firm acquisitions, and/or cross‑segment costs. The Manager will coordinate with Accounting Policy and other stakeholders to ensure approved guidance is implemented consistently and effectively. This position requires a strong foundation in accounting concepts (i.e. Accruals/Contingencies, Prepaid Expenses, Receivables, and Payables), demonstrated supervisory and review capabilities, and a strong aptitude for accounting systems, data analysis, and processing high volumes of financial information. The Manager must be able to prioritize competing deadlines, exercise sound judgment, communicate clearly with stakeholders and leadership, and develop team members. Depending on the assignment, the role may combine direct process ownership, review responsibilities, and hands‑on execution of complex accounting activities. Substantially all responsibilities will involve Excel and PeopleSoft. Essential attributes include strong attention to detail, accountability, effective people leadership, sound escalation judgment, and a continuous‑improvement mindset. In‑Office Requirement: 4 days per week Primary Responsibilities Daily and Monthly activities (50% of time): Lead and oversee assigned accounting activities and provide day‑to‑day direction, prioritization, coaching, and support to Senior and Staff Accountants. Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation prepared by Senior and Staff Accountants; ensure review is sufficiently detailed, timely, and consistent with established policies and control requirements. Perform and/or review more complex or judgmental accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, analyses, and supporting documentation, and ensure significant conclusions are appropriately supported. Manage communications with internal and external stakeholders regarding assigned accounting activities, deliverables, open items, dependencies, and deadlines. Review account activity, trends, and balance sheet reconciliations to identify errors, unusual balances, missing transactions, aged reconciling items, control concerns, or broader process issues; ensure appropriate corrective actions are identified and completed timely. Anticipate and manage issues as they arise, evaluate risks and alternatives, determine an appropriate course of action within the Manager's authority, and elevate significant or judgmental matters to the AVP, Accounting Policy team, or other stakeholders as appropriate. Special projects/transaction accounting (20% of time): Lead the operational implementation of new or updated accounting guidance within assigned areas, including translating guidance provided by the Accounting Policy team into journal‑entry processes, reconciliations, controls, procedures, documentation, and team training. Evaluate new or non‑routine transactions and arrangements to understand the underlying facts and determine whether established accounting guidance is sufficient for execution. Exercise judgment in identifying matters that require additional technical guidance, coordinate with the Accounting Policy team and leadership as appropriate, and ensure approved accounting conclusions are implemented accurately and consistently. Lead assigned ad‑hoc requests, process improvements, and special projects through timely completion; identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and control of accounting processes and coordinate implementation with impacted stakeholders. Quarterly and Annual activities (20% of time): Review and/or prepare reports, analyses, and PBC deliverables for auditors and Accounting leadership; serve as a primary point of coordination for audit requests within assigned areas. Ensure adherence to firm policies, SOX controls, service agreements, and other applicable controls or agreements within assigned areas; identify control or process gaps and coordinate timely remediation. Other functions (10% of time): Manage, coach, and develop Senior and Staff Accountants, including providing regular feedback, setting expectations, delegating work appropriately, and contributing to or completing performance evaluations as applicable. Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and ongoing development of Accounting Operations team members. Partner with Accounts Payable and other operational teams to resolve accounting, coding, payment, or process issues affecting assigned areas. Review and approve voucher coding and other assigned operational accounting activities in accordance with established authority and controls. Requirements Education & Certificates Bachelor's degree, required Business‑related degree (e.g. Finance, Economics, Business Administration) and relevant accounting experience is acceptable CPA or CPA candidate preferred Professional Experience 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting and/or industry, including experience reviewing complex journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analyses, and accounting processes, required Private Equity or Financial Services experience, preferred Prior experience supervising, reviewing, coaching, or developing accounting professionals, required; formal people‑management experience preferred Competencies & Attributes Strong Microsoft Office skills; Advanced MS Excel preferred Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills Strong sense of ownership and accountability; able to make sound decisions, manage issues through resolution, and elevate complex or technical matters appropriately Strong organizational and leadership skills; able to prioritize team workloads and complete multiple simultaneous tasks, often on tight deadlines Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain an appropriate level of review across high‑volume accounting activities. Benefits/Compensation The compensation range for this role is specific to Washington, DC and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to the skill sets required/preferred; prior experience and training; licenses and/or certifications. The anticipated base salary range for this role is $125,000 to $135,000. In addition to the base salary, the hired professional will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package spanning retirement benefits, health insurance, life insurance and disability, paid time off, paid holidays, family planning benefits and various wellness programs. Additionally, the hired professional may also be eligible to participate in an annual discretionary incentive program, the award of which will be dependent on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
