Job Description

This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems within a modern distribution center. The Maintenance Engineer reads and interprets electrical schematics and blueprints, services conveyors and packaging equipment, and ensures all work complies with applicable codes and safety guidelines. The position requires strong PLC troubleshooting skills, hands-on industrial electrical experience, and the ability to make accurate, timely repairs under pressure while supporting continuous operations across flexible shifts.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, logic diagrams, and wiring diagrams to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.

• Troubleshoot, repair, and test mechanical equipment commonly used in distribution centers, including conveyors, diverters, and packaging equipment.

• Diagnose and resolve issues in programmable logic controllers (PLCs) by reading ladder logic and checking inputs and outputs.

• Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and components in accordance with the National Electrical Code (N.E.C.) and applicable safety guidelines.

• Use electrical and electronic test equipment, such as multimeters and oscilloscopes, to identify and correct electrical and electronic faults.

• Perform electrical welding and apply basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot systems controlled by electrical devices.

• Maintain and repair plumbing systems and perform pipe fitting using appropriate tools and techniques.

• Work with control cabinets and high-voltage systems safely and effectively while following established procedures and regulations.

• Apply working knowledge of laws and operational requirements set forth by governing agencies to ensure compliant maintenance practices.

• Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and make correct, expedient repairs under pressure to minimize downtime.

• Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and control systems to support reliable distribution center operations.

• Complete and maintain powered industrial vehicle training and certification, and operate such equipment safely as required.

• Collaborate with operations and other maintenance personnel to support continuous improvement and efficient workflow.

• Work flexible hours and shifts based on business needs, including first and third shift coverage.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or GED.

• Graduation from a vocational or technical school in an electrical or electronic craft with at least two years of electrical experience in an industrial environment, OR some post-secondary education in an electronic or electrical craft with four or more years of electrical experience in an industrial environment.

• Strong PLC troubleshooting skills, including the ability to read ladder logic and verify inputs and outputs.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, logic diagrams, and wiring diagrams.

• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (N.E.C.) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (O.S.H.A.) guidelines.

• Proficiency in using electrical and electronic test equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.

• Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and test mechanical equipment used in distribution centers, such as conveyors, diverters, and packaging equipment.

• Proficiency in plumbing operations and use of pipe fitting tools.

• Capability to perform electrical welding and apply basic mechanical troubleshooting skills for systems controlled by electrical devices.

• Experience working with high-voltage systems and control cabinets.

• Working knowledge of operational requirements established by governing agencies.

• Ability to make accurate, timely repairs under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

• Successful completion of a powered vehicle training program and ability to maintain certification every two years.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with PLC troubleshooting in industrial environments, including reading and modifying ladder logic.

• Hands-on experience with conveyor maintenance and related material handling systems.

• Familiarity with Siemens PLCs and Allen-Bradley control systems.

• Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics in relation to automated equipment.

• Experience working with control cabinets and industrial control wiring.

• Two-year degree combined with at least two years of on-the-job electrical experience, or four or more years of on-the-job electrical experience in lieu of a degree.

• Comfort working with high-voltage equipment while following strict safety procedures.

• Ability to adapt to flexible work hours and different shifts based on operational needs.

Work Environment

The position is based in a clean distribution center environment that operates with modern material handling and packaging equipment. There is one opening on first shift (approximately 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) and one opening on third shift, providing options for different schedule preferences. The role offers a consistent 40-hour workweek throughout the year. You will work around conveyors, diverters, packaging machinery, control cabinets, and high-voltage electrical systems, using tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, welding equipment, and pipe fitting tools. The environment emphasizes safety and adherence to N.E.C. and O.S.H.A. guidelines, with required powered vehicle training and certification to operate equipment safely.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Zanesville, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $41.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
