Controls Technician Abbott Nutrition Division – Columbus, Ohio Job Family: Facilities & Maintenance Division: Nutrient Research & Development Salary: $20.85 – $41.75 per hour (varies by location) Shift: Standard (8‑hour day) Travel: None Primary Responsibilities Perform routine and complex calibrations and breakdowns on processing and laboratory equipment. Schedule work orders using current calibration/maintenance systems. Review documentation completed by other technicians and report status via the work order system, email, and weekly reports. Use standard office software and purchase order systems to maintain inventory. Comply with safety, GMP, and cGMP procedures. Support calibration procedure implementation, investigate out‑of‑tolerance impacts, and repair instruments. Conduct multi‑craft activities to support production equipment in the R&D facility. Troubleshoot automated processing systems using industrial software. Use test equipment to analyze electrical issues and read blueprints/Site P&ID drawings and PLC ladder logic. Make small program changes to PLCs and HMIs. Participate in cross‑functional project teams on complex projects. Identify, evaluate, and recommend new instruments for continual improvement. Communicate effectively with supervisors and customers. Schedule outside contractors for specialized repairs, ensuring compliance with safety and GMP requirements. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Experience calibrating temperature probes, pressure transmitters/probes (Emerson), and conductivity probes. Understanding of electrical theory, electrical and pneumatic components, and ability to work safely in panels up to 480V. Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, and follow diagnostic and repair procedures from equipment manuals. Attention to detail and accurate documentation skills. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field. Experience with PLCs, integration, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic instrumentation and control devices. Benefits Competitive compensation and incentives.
