ABOUT COVENANT HOUSE ILLINOIS Founded in 2017, Covenant House Illinois (CHIL) provides critical protection and resources for youth ages 18-24 experiencing homelessness throughout Chicagoland and across Illinois. In FY25, CHIL provided 15,935 nights of shelter, served 395 youth in its drop-in center, and served 139 youth in its residential programs.CHIL administers tailored, wraparound services, including interim and transitional shelter, workforce and education programming, clinical case management, life-skills training, and more to help youth permanently escape the cycle of homelessness. CHIL's programs and services are youth affirming, supportive, and rooted in harm reduction and trauma-sensitive care. Looking Ahead With a transformational capital campaign underway, this is a pivotal moment for a new CFO to help shape the next chapter of CHIL. Partnering closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, campaign leadership, and development team, the CFO will provide the financial leadership and stewardship necessary to ensure the campaign is executed with transparency, fiscal discipline, and alignment with CHIL's long-term strategic vision. As CHIL expands its capacity to serve more young people experiencing homelessness and housing instability, the CFO will play an integral role in strengthening its financial foundation, supporting sustainable growth, and ensuring the resources are in place to deliver life-changing programs and services for years to come. Learn more about CHIL here: THE OPPORTUNITY Covenant House Illinois (CHIL)'s next Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as the organization's senior financial leader, providing management and oversight in operational matters pertaining to financial sustainability and growth. CHIL is seeking a proactively strategic thought partner who brings an appreciation for cross-functional collaboration for the greatest impact. The CFO will advise the CEO, engage with the Board, and partner with teams across the organization to further develop internal controls to mitigate risk and safeguard the assets of CHIL by providing financial expertise, establishing strong systems, refining processes, and developing strong financial literacy to ensure accountability and ownership organization wide. The CFO will serve as the executive sponsor for the organization's new accounting system implementation, providing strategic leadership to modernize financial operations and improve the quality, accessibility, and timeliness of financial information. The CFO will ensure the highest standards of financial management and will partner with the CEO and Chief Development Officer on a monthly basis to guide how the organization manages incoming philanthropic dollars and government grants, expenses and overall cash flow in an inherently dynamic and fluid environment. This leader will also propose ways to diversify fund development planning. Moreover, the CFO is responsible for the creation, updating and enforcement of the Finance department systems, policies, and procedures; preparation of budgets; development of financial reports; management of external audit activities; and directing activities related to financial strategy, planning, analysis and forecasting. In addition, the CFO will collaborate with external auditors, legal counsel, financial advisors, architects, and project managers to ensure accurate financial oversight and reporting throughout the capital campaign lifecycle. As part of CHIL's senior leadership team, the CFO will oversee the entire finance team. They will have an opportunity to evaluate the needs to hire additional support. A key to success in the role will be managing relationships with the Board and senior leadership. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS This is a full-time, hybrid work environment. The CFO is expected to be on-site three days a week. As a senior leader of the organization, the candidate must have flexibility to adapt schedules to meet business needs and come on-site as frequently as necessary. The annual salary range for this position will be based on a range of $130,000 to $150,000 and will be commensurate with the successful candidate's skills and experience.
