Job Description:
- Shift: 12 hour nights, with weekends as scheduled
- Unit Overview:
- 18 beds accommodating mixed acuity including step down and ICU patients
- Nurse:Patient Ratios:
- 1:1 for fresh hearts & devices
- 1:2 for ICU status patients
- 1:3 for step down status patients

- Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

- Common Patient Diagnoses:
- Atrial fibrillation
- Heart blocks
- Bradycardia
- NSTEMI and STEMI
- Cardiac Arrest
- Hyper/Hypotension
- Pulmonary Embolisms
- Cardiogenic Shock
- Heart Surgery (CABG/Valves)
- Heart Failure
- Thoracic Surgery (VATS, Lobectomy, etc.)

- Essential Experience:
- Fresh open heart or >6 hours post-op open heart patients
- CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
- Temporary Pacemakers & Post-Permanent Pacemaker
- Acute MI (Pre/post cath experience)
- Mediastinal/Chest tubes
- Ventilator management
- Hypothermia Protocol

- Key Skills:
- Experience with the following drips:
- Cardizem, Cordarone, Cardene, Nitroglycerin, Esmolol, Cleviprex
- Milrinone, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Lasix, Bumex
- Epinephrine, Levophed, Vasopressin, Insulin, Heparin, Aggrastat
- Precedex, Propofol, Versed, Fentanyl
- Arterial Line management
- Preferred: IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump), Impella, Hemodynamic Monitoring/Swan-Ganz experience

- Unit Structure:
- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor responsibilities on rare occasion at night with assignments


- Staffing:
- 1-2 PCTs (Patient Care Technicians) per shift
- Hospitalist or Intensivist in-house
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7

- Equipment:
- Ventilators, Trach-vent, BiPap, CPAP, Hiflow, Trilogy

- Monitoring:
- Monitors overseen by tele/monitor techs
- RNs are responsible for reading their own strips using Philips monitors

- Scheduling:
- Self-scheduling and block scheduling requests accommodated
- Weekend and holiday requirements based on unit needs
- Travelers float first, primarily to ACU and ICU, with maximal patient load of 6


- Dress Code:
- Royal Blue Scrubs

- Orientation:
- 1 week of comprehensive orientation including modules and Epic training
