Child Care Worker

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Performs all duties related to the direct care and treatment of residents. Maintains the safety and security of residents, staff and facility. Provides guidance and support to residents.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:Provide direct supervision and be accountable for whereabouts of residents at all timesManage resident behaviorAccurately report resident’s adjustment and behavior to case manger, supervisor, shift leader and director, as well as other CCW’sMaintain the daily schedule of resident activitiesProvide safe transportation of residents, as approved by DYFJReport all unsafe conditions and incidents immediately to the Supervisor and DirectorEnsure necessary steps are taken in the event of an incidentConduct group and individual counseling with residentsComplete searches, including body and propertyProperly and legibly document all activity, as well as any all concerns, in logbooksIdentify and report any unusual occurrences that may effect the general atmosphere of the programEngage residents in recreational, educational and cultural activitiesConfer regularly with co-workers and appropriate staff regarding any social problems of residents and ensure pertinent information is relayed to appropriate sourcesEnsure proper care and supervision of agency supplies, equipment and propertyComplete all necessary paperwork and assignments for each shiftMaintain a clean and orderly facility; inside and outResponsible for adhering to all DYFJ, OCFS and LSS regulationsParticipate in on-going meetings, conferences and training programs as requiredPerform any and all other tasks as assigned by Supervisor or DirectorTo ensure proper supervision of all residents in our custody,May have to stay past the expiration of one’s shift at any given timeSUPERVISES:N/AEDUCATION:Minimum high school diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE:Minimum 1 year related experience in social services, childcare, security, or correctional environmentSKILLS & ABILITIES:Excellent written and verbal communication skillsKnowledge of Microsoft Office applicationsWorks well with teamsAbility to manage time, organize and multi-taskAbility to work effectively with at-risk youth and their familiesAbility to maintain safe and controlled environmentAbility to apply training to their workOTHER REQUIREMENTS:Valid NYS driver’s license #J-18808-Ljbffr Lutheran-Social-Services-of-New-York
