Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

• Under direct supervision of the provider and/or nursing leadership, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to assist in the quality and compassionate care provided to patients in a behavioral health setting.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Greet and escort patients to the exam room in a welcoming and professional manner, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment.
• Obtain and document comprehensive medical histories and behavioral health intake information from patients.
• Measure, record, and communicate vital signs and other clinical observations to the provider.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, including explaining procedures in clear, compassionate language.
• Assist the provider during patient examinations and behavioral health assessments.
• Perform behavioral health screening and documentation tasks as directed by clinical staff.
• Enter and maintain accurate patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR/EPIC) system while ensuring HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
• Support patients experiencing behavioral health crises by providing calm, compassionate assistance and alerting clinical staff as appropriate.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment, including proper infection control and safety protocols.
• Manage clinical supplies and equipment inventory, reporting deficiencies to nursing leadership.
• Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and interdisciplinary team members to support quality patient care.
• Provide basic patient education and health promotion information as directed by the clinical team.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills preferred.
• Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills as related to ambulatory patient care preferred. Ability to problem-solve preferred.
• Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills preferred. EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience preferred.

Additional Requirements:

• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum). OR Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years. OR Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of one year of experience in clinical medical assisting. OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years. OR Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

• Current BLS-C upon hire or successful completion by end of orientation.
