The Supported Living Program of North Star Community Services in the Vinton area is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide individualized support to persons receiving services in their homes and communities. Scheduled work hours: Monday 9:00 AM-1:00PM. Tuesday 9:00 AM -1:30 PMWednesday 7:30 AM-3:30 PMThursday 7:30 AM-2PMFriday 11:3AM -5 PM  Provide training and support to each person served according to their person-centered plan and individualized needsProvide written documentation of services provided according to funding source regulationsAssist persons served to accomplish tasks at home and in the community using modifications or adaptations when necessary.Provide assistance to persons served in solving problemsAssist persons served to develop natural supports in the communityOther Duties as needed:Provide transportationDispense medicationsParticipate with persons served in the person-centered planning processProvide assistance with personal careAssist with socialization opportunitiesAssist persons served with the use of community resourcesAssist with scheduling and maintaining appointmentsRequired Skills:Ability to train and support persons with disabilities in a variety of settingsPhysical ability to assist persons served (see note below)Ability to follow instructions and communicate orally and in writingAbility to positively relate to persons served and their familiesAbility to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and extended hoursClick the link to learn more about the important work that Direct Support Professionals do: and Required Training:High School Diploma or GEDOne year experience working with people with disabilitiesPossess a valid driver's license and meet agency driving record requirementsMedication Manager CertificationCrisis Prevention Intervention CertificationDirect Service Provider Curriculum for Supported Community Living ServicesNOTE: This position requires physical abilities that include one or more of the following (this is not a comprehensive list): pushing or pulling persons in wheelchairs, transferring persons weighing at least 100 pounds to and from wheelchairs with another staff person, lifting 25 pounds, frequent bending, stooping, kneeling motions, physical interventions.Supervises: No supervisory responsibilitiesSupervised by: Service Coordinator or Site SupervisorFor more information about North Star Community Services, visit us on the web at Opportunity EmployerApplicants for this position will be required will have completed a criminal conviction history and dependent abuse registry check and reviewed prior to confirmation of an offer of employment.
