CUSTODIAN I

POSITION SUMMARY

The principal function of an employee in this class is to clean, maintain, repair and service City facilities, parks and public areas. Additional duties include cleanup duties and public restroom cleaning and maintenance. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Parks and Recreation, Fleet, and Facilities Director.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (MAY VARY BY ASSIGNMENT)

• Maintains and cleans City facilities, public restrooms and drinking fountain facilities, including cleaning and sanitizing surface areas, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and trash removal.
• Provides facility and equipment security, including opening and closing and locking and unlocking facilities.
• Repairs vandalism and performs maintenance on buildings, including painting.
• Sets up for and breaks down after programs, reservations, and special events.
• Provides information and answers to inquiries from the public.
• Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices.
• Coordinates jobs around staff working hours and public use.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Communicate effectively with the public, supervisors, and other City employees.
• Work weekends, evenings, and holidays, as assigned.
• Basic building custodial skills include, but not limited to, cleaning restrooms, floors, windows, and fixtures.
• Follow written and oral instructions.
• Operate hand tools.
• Operate a motor vehicle.
• Maintain maintenance records, logs, and documentation.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

• Some experience in building maintenance is preferred; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be 18 years old or older.
• A valid Idaho driver's license is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

• Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, discern equipment warning sounds and alarms, and communicate effectively on the telephone and in person.
• Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions, operator manuals, and diagrams.
• Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Sufficient strength to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
• Sufficient personal mobility, agility, balance, and flexibility to perform maintenance and repair operations and perform strenuous activities for extended periods of time.
• Jobs in this class require performing repetitive hand movement in gripping, fingering, and hand/wrist/arm movements. Related job tasks may require, with or without reasonable accommodation, walking, standing, sitting, lifting, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, crouching, pushing, grasping, and reaching.

Additionally, he/she will be responsible and accountable for supporting the City's safety culture, event processes, efficiency, and the overall foundation of providing the best service possible to its constituency.


JOB LOCATION - Kuna, Idaho


POSITION TYPE - Full time

SALARY/WAGE - $21.12 Hourly (4/A)
