This role applies fundamental engineering principles to solve well-defined problems and supports product development, manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives.Job DescriptionRole OverviewThe Mechanical Engineer I supports engineering projects by performing engineering calculations, developing design concepts, assisting with testing or validation activities, and supporting documentation and change processes. The role is developmental in nature and focuses on building core engineering skills, technical judgment, and understanding of products, processes, and systems. This position typically reports to a Mechanical Engineering Manager, Lead Mechanical Engineer, or Engineering Supervisor.Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Design & Engineering SupportSupport the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, or systemsApply basic mechanical engineering principles to solve routine engineering problemsAssist with generating design concepts, layouts, and supporting documentationAnalysis & CalculationsPerform basic engineering analyses (e.g., strength, load, tolerance, thermal) under guidanceSupport validation of designs through calculations, simulations, or testingDocument assumptions, results, and conclusions clearlyCAD & Documentation SupportCreate or review CAD models and drawings in collaboration with designersEnsure designs and drawings align with engineering intent and requirementsSupport preparation and maintenance of bills of materials, specifications, and reportsEngineering Change & Configuration SupportSupport engineering change processes, including evaluation and documentation of changesAssess impact of changes on form, fit, function, and manufacturabilityAssist with implementation of approved engineering changesManufacturing & Cross-Functional CollaborationPartner with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to support production needsAssist with resolving engineering issues identified on the shop floor or during testingSupport design-for-manufacturability and design-for-assembly effortsTesting, Validation & Quality SupportAssist with prototype builds, testing, or validation activitiesSupport root cause investigations and corrective actions for engineering issuesEnsure compliance with applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirementsLearning & Professional DevelopmentBuild knowledge of products, materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering standardsLearn company engineering tools, systems, and proceduresParticipate in training, mentoring, and development activitiesQualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline requiredEntry-level role; typically 0–2 years of engineering experienceInternship, co-op, or academic project experience in mechanical engineering preferredKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesFundamental knowledge of mechanical engineering principlesBasic understanding of materials, mechanics, and manufacturing processesFamiliarity with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar)Ability to perform basic engineering calculations and analysisStrong problem-solving and analytical skillsClear written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentStrong attention to detail and documentation accuracyWillingness to learn and accept technical guidanceSalary - $68k -$72KEqual Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action at Nidec Nidec is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Affirmative Action Employer encouraging diversity in the workplace.
