Position Summary

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing Cardiopulmonary care services in accordance with specific Physician's orders and departmental policies and procedures. The role involves assessing, treating, and caring for patients with breathing disorders, initiating and conducting therapeutic procedures, maintaining patient records, and operating respiratory care equipment.

General Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities

• Conduct accurate and comprehensive respiratory assessments of patients, including initial screenings and reassessments of pain, ensuring appropriateness based on age, culture, and psychosocial factors.
• Determine treatment requirements, including type, method, and duration of therapy, ensuring compatibility with physician's orders.
• Formulate teaching plans based on identified learning needs and evaluate the effectiveness of the learning, including educating patients and families on pain management and discharge planning.
• Monitor patients' physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs and arterial blood gases, consulting with physicians as necessary for any adverse reactions.
• Prepare and administer medications based on patients' age and clinical condition, demonstrating knowledge of outcomes and side effects of respiratory medications.
• Conduct tests, including Holter monitoring, cardiac monitoring, and lung capacity assessments, making adjustments to equipment for optimal results.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of departmental equipment, assisting with calibration and ensuring thorough documentation is completed.
• Ensure that documentation is complete, accurate, and timely in both electronic and chart forms.
• Perform all duties in an environment that optimizes safety and minimizes the likelihood of medical or healthcare errors while adhering to established hand-off communication protocols.
• Comply with established safety procedures to maintain a secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
• Participate in performance improvement activities and perform other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

• Current IL Respiratory Therapist License required.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS certification required.
• NRP certification required.
• PALS certification required.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in Respiratory Therapy preferred.

Computer Skills

• Strong computer skills with the ability to navigate Electronic Medical Records (EMR) programs.

Work Shift

This position is for Night shifts, working 3 days a week from 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM.
