Full-time

Bristol Myers Squibb

At Bristol Myers Squibb, our employees often ask, “Who are you working for?”—a question that fuels collaboration, accountability, and urgency in our work. Our purpose-driven culture inspires us to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines to prevail over serious diseases. We offer uniquely interesting and meaningful work, opportunities for growth, and a supportive environment that values inclusion, wellbeing, flexibility, and comprehensive benefits. This is work that transforms the lives of patients, and the careers of those who do it.

Position Summary

Bristol Myers Squibb is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Associate Scientist to join our LNP Process Development team in Cambridge, MA. The LNP PD team works to develop, characterize, and implement robust preclinical and clinical manufacturing processes to support Bristol Myers Squibb's exciting pipeline of products. This role is specifically focused on LNP process development, with responsibilities spanning early process development through clinical manufacturing support. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career scientist to grow within a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will support planning and execution of laboratory studies and contribute to protocols, technical reports, and regulatory documentation under the guidance of senior team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute hands-on laboratory experiments focused on LNP process development and scale-up from bench to pilot scale
  • Design and perform experiments for optimization and characterization of targeted lipid nanoparticles using structured approaches in both upstream and downstream unit operations (i.e. QbD principles, DoE)
  • Contribute to the authoring and review of technical protocols, experimental reports, and batch records in support of early- to late-stage development activities
  • Perform routine analytical testing to assess LNP characterization
  • Analyze and interpret experimental results, present findings to senior scientists and project teams
  • Collaborate with internal R&D, analytical development, and manufacturing to advance BMS's LNP pipeline
  • Support interactions with manufacturing partners, including review of technical documents and participation in technology transfer activities as needed
  • Maintain accurate and complete laboratory notebooks and documentation in compliance with internal quality standards

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Bio/Chemical Engineering, Bio/Chemistry, or related field
  • BS with 6+ years’ experience in science related disciplines
  • MS with 4-6 years’ experience in science related disciplines
  • PhD with 0 - 2 years’ experience in science related disciplines
  • Expertise in nanoprecipitation, filtration (TFF/UF-DF) , and innovative separation unit operations
  • Solid knowledge foundation of statistical design of experiments (DoE) and analysis of multivariate data
  • Experience with performing process analytics and biophysical characterization techniques such as DLS, ribogreen, and HPLC
  • Knowledge of cGMP, ICH, regulatory guidelines and QbD principles as they apply to risk management and clinical manufacturing
  • Demonstrated background of providing technical support for clinical manufacturing processes, including support of process investigations, and implementation of proactive process modifications
  • Knowledge of advanced mathematics, nucleic acid chemistry, lipid chemistry, and biology is a plus
  • Knowledge of establishing and qualifying scale down models and mechanistic models for process characterization is a plus

We hire for skills and capabilities, not just credentials – if this role excites you, but doesn’t perfectly match your resume, we encourage you to apply anyway.
