Division Controller (Charlotte)

A well-established and growing manufacturer and distributor is looking to add an experienced Divisional Controller to its Charlotte-area finance leadership team. This individual will have financial oversight of a significant business unit generating approximately $500 million in annual revenue and will play an important role in both day-to-day accounting operations and the continued evolution of the finance organization.

This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership opportunity overseeing accounting activities across two primary locations, with the majority of the operation based in the Charlotte area. The Divisional Controller will lead a team of accounting professionals while working closely with operational and corporate leadership on financial reporting, inventory and cost accounting, internal controls, forecasting, and process improvement.

The ideal candidate will bring strong Controller-level experience within a large manufacturing and/or distribution environment and enjoy being close to the operations. This role requires someone who can move comfortably between the details of the accounting function and higher-level analysis and business partnership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead accounting and financial reporting for a business unit with approximately $500 million in annual revenue.
• Manage the monthly close process, including financial statement preparation, management reporting, and supporting analysis.
• Oversee accounting activities across multiple locations and ensure consistent application of company policies and U.S. GAAP.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of approximately 4–5 accounting professionals.
• Manage inventory accounting activities, including valuation, cycle counts, cost analysis, operational variances, and related reporting.
• Oversee intercompany accounting, general ledger activities, account reconciliations, and other core accounting functions.
• Work closely with operational leadership to understand business performance, identify trends, and provide actionable financial insight.
• Analyze financial results and explain key drivers behind budget, forecast, and prior-period variances.
• Support the budgeting and forecasting processes, capital expenditure planning, and other financial analysis.
• Maintain a strong internal control environment and identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes.
• Partner across the organization on process improvements and initiatives impacting accounting and financial reporting.
• Coordinate with external auditors and support annual financial statement audit requirements.
• Participate in financial systems, reporting, and technology initiatives designed to improve the efficiency and scalability of the finance organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
• Previous experience as a Plant Controller, Divisional Controller, Site Controller, or similar accounting leader strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting a sizable business unit or complex operating environment.
• Strong manufacturing and/or distribution industry experience.
• Hands-on knowledge of inventory and cost accounting within an operational environment.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, month-end close, and internal controls.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting professionals.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with large data sets and translate financial results into meaningful business insights.
• Experience with NetSuite or another large ERP platform is beneficial.
• Advanced Excel skills required; experience with financial reporting and business intelligence tools is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with both finance and operational leaders.
