Practice locations can include Duke Health's four hospitals or over 140 primary care and specialty care clinics throughout North Carolina.Job Locations Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC Duke Regional Hospital, Durham, NC Duke Behavioral Health North Durham Clinic Duke Raleigh Hospital, Raleigh, NCJob Summary The Director of Advanced Practice for Behavioral Health is responsible for establishing best practices for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and aligning their role across the continuum of behavioral health care delivery within DHIP and DUHS. Behavioral health services span inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department settings across Duke Health. This role leads the integration and deployment of APPs across interprofessional teams to enhance access, quality, safety, and operational performance in behavioral health services, including ambulatory psychiatry, inpatient care, emergency services, and interventional psychiatry. In collaboration with executive and medical leadership, the Director advances APP practice through improvements in clinical service delivery, competency, productivity, and workforce optimization.Job Duties & Responsibilities Act as organizational change agent to optimize APP value and contribution for each Division. Analyze workforce utilization and access data for Divisions/Departments. Provide business case development for new practices and optimization of existing ones. Collaborate to design new Interprofessional practices, manage hiring and onboarding process: Work with department leadership to design and implement practice models Work with Dept/Div to develop job descriptions, write practice agreements with Supervising MDs Guide recruitment efforts Serve as resource for hiring, onboarding and credentialing of new APPs Work with medical and administrative leadership to design clinical orientation Support orientation for APPs Provide practice metrics and consulting to optimize practice models Models of care: Serves as expert resource in the utilization of APPs across multiple environments. Accountable for setting vision, identifies existing and emerging practice models and is accountable for the integration of emerging practice models in the overall strategic plan of the organization; assesses job satisfaction and retention of the APP workforce. Provide leadership to APP Leadership Council. Facilitates communication with Team Leads and APPs on current and relevant practice matters and policies. Advise on maintenance of safe and effective clinical practice of APPs. Compliance: Designs and implements process flows for ensuring compliance for APPs. Collaborates with compliance officers, legal and risk management to ensure that all APPs comply with state and federal mandates. Ensures licensure, certification and regulatory compliance with NC law and State Boards of Nursing and Medicine. Makes recommendations on course of action regarding unsatisfactory employee performance including corrective actions, performance improvement plans, peer reviews and terminations. Onboarding: Works with human resources, the office of integration and departmental administration, coordinates key and central elements of an APP orientation program for the onboarding of all APPs. Legislative and Health Policy Issues for APPs: Establishes relationships with key stakeholders including legal, compliance, HR and State Boards, assesses for best practices and national changes for APP practice acts, ensuring that changes are communicated and incorporated into practices. Financial: Works with Departmental Administrators and Finance, evaluates APPs billing performance and patterns in aggregate, and at the individual level assesses for variability and opportunities for improvement using internal and external benchmark data. Identifies performance metrics for non- billing APPs in collaboration with department/division leadership. Provides inspirational leadership and mentoring to APPs and other health care team members. Collaborate as needed to address complaints and serves as a resource for conflict resolution. Maintain clinical practice at Duke with a minimum 60 percent of FTE allocated to provide clinical services. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Job Eligibility Requirements Education Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing. Physician Assistants: Work requires completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Master's degree required. Certification Nurse Practitioners: PMHNP-BC preferred or equivalent Behavioral Health/Psychiatric experience BLS required. License Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure & NP approval to practice in the state of North Carolina. National certification as a NP required. Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. DEA licensure with full prescriptive authority required.
