Posting Details Posting Number: PG195039SP Working Title: Research Technician Salary Range: $34,320 - $72,734 (Commensurate with experience $43,116) Location: Kinston, NC Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm (seasonal overtime, occasional nights & weekends) Department: Lower Coastal Plain Tobacco Research Role Overview The Research Technician is a multi‑disciplinary field position supporting all research station operations. Duties include establishing, maintaining, and disposing of field crops, vegetables, fruit, and tobacco. Key Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Application of treatments to research subjects according to protocol (pesticides, fertilizers, irrigation). Operation of a wide variety of agricultural equipment to prepare fields, apply treatments, and harvest crops. Assisting research personnel with plot layout, implementation of treatments, and collection and recording of data. Hand planting and harvesting. Working with various types of irrigation equipment, including laying solid set pipe, drip, and linear irrigation systems. Additional duties involve maintenance of equipment, grounds, buildings, field plots, and overall facility upkeep. Other responsibilities may be assigned based on evolving priorities. Qualifications Minimum Experience / Education Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of agricultural practices related to crop and livestock production; experience in agriculture and/or research. Experience operating and adjusting farm equipment, including calibration. Ability to read and follow pesticide labels and research protocols. Ability to collect and record data accurately. Required Licensing / Certification Must obtain NCDA & CS Forklift Driver certification within 6 months of hire. A valid NC driver’s license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
