Position Overview

Are you an engineering or accounting graduate looking to build a career in project planning and scheduling?

Business Control Systems (BCS) is seeking a motivated Planner/Scheduler I to support large-scale, multi-year capital projects for a leading energy infrastructure company in Duluth, MN.

Previous project scheduling experience is not required for candidates with the right educational background and transferable skills. The hiring manager is open to training an early-career professional who demonstrates strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an engineering or accounting background who wants to gain hands-on experience in project controls, scheduling, and the energy industry.

Education & Qualifications

Required:

• A degree in Engineering or Accounting .
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work with numbers, data, schedules, and detailed project information.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with multiple project stakeholders.
• Excellent attention to detail, time management, and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work onsite in Duluth, MN, Monday through Friday.

Preferred but Not Required:

• Previous experience in project planning, scheduling, construction, engineering, accounting, or project controls.
• Familiarity with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar scheduling software.
• Exposure to capital projects, construction, utilities, oil and gas, or energy infrastructure.
• Understanding of project budgets, forecasting, milestones, or performance reporting.
• Project Management Institute scheduling certification (PMI-SP).

Important: Candidates with an engineering or accounting degree are encouraged to apply even without prior Primavera P6 or professional scheduling experience. Training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with developing, updating, and maintaining project schedules for large-scale capital projects.
• Support tracking of project milestones, deadlines, activities, and overall progress.
• Work with project managers, engineers, construction teams, and other stakeholders to gather scheduling updates.
• Help maintain baseline schedules and identify changes that could affect project timelines.
• Assist with developing and maintaining project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS).
• Support tracking and reporting of project progress, schedule variances, and potential delays.
• Help prepare regular project status reports, scheduling updates, and performance summaries.
• Assist with reviewing project risks, schedule impacts, and potential recovery plans.
• Learn and apply project scheduling tools, processes, and established company procedures.
• Support project teams with accurate documentation, reporting, and schedule-related analysis.
• Collaborate with experienced project controls professionals while developing technical scheduling skills.
